Ah, no. The Doh&#33;than :lol: chip has the same overlong pipeline as the P4, which is why it needs the 2MB L2 cache.

Uh... Dothan is a Pentium M. It&#39;s the latest core in the Pentium M series; the previous core was called Banias and was also a Pentium M.

The Banias/Dothan chips are a compeletly different design than the Pentium 4. The operate at lower voltages thus they generate less heat. The pipeline of the Banias/Dothan CPUs is also significantly shorter than the Pentium Northwood OR Prescott variants.

My point is that Intel made a wise move to develop dual core processors based on this new design.

Maybe it was the passion that was burning within the hearts of the Israel design team or the desire to show Intel corporate what the team was capable of, but Banias was the first and only chip in Intel&#39;s history that was no more than 8 days late.

The future of the chip is also quite bright; there are a few tweaks that didn&#39;t make it into Banias that will be present in its 90nm successor known as Dothan by the end of this year. Dothan should be able to ramp frequencies up even higher, while providing an even larger 2MB L2 cache as has been leaked previously.
