It definitely goes over the River Kwai - which is not in Japan.
Both movies have their merits. Tiger is arty and spectacular although I never really identified with the main characters and thus felt the movie lacked a certain depth.
Khyber is a classic of its genre -albeit a very silly genre. However, Syd James' cackle as Sir Rough-Diamond does, on balance, give it the edge.
