Don't forget to check out http://www.simplyclick.org/uploadertest/pg2.asp
This is a creat idea, its a datebase of all badips that should be blocked, simply click on the ones you wish peer to add and it block them. Great thing now, check it daily or so, i do believe they udpate it now :)
There's a bug in Peer Guardian v1.95b -- it blocks www.bearshare.com (A Gnutella p2p file sharing app) by mistake because the makers put too big a range on one of RIAA's ranges.
You fix that, and PG v1.95b only blocks about 500,000 ips... that are BETTER off blocked!
Mine w/all updates blocks over 38 million ip's. Yowza! Haven't tried KL or Shareaza yet w/it. We'll see.
I, too, am a n00b, did a search for peer guardian and did see the threads. Couldn't manage to locate one that gave details about the program. please do me a favour by giving a link that could explain how it works - what it is.Quote:

First welcome Hough NutZ. Second I will call you a n00b. N00b! Do a search for PeerGuardian in all categories. About 25 threads come up. :rtfaq: And again welcome. :)
mucho thanks!
First welcome. Second it's PeerGuardian. Third, try 3 posts previous to my quoted post. Fourth do try & learn how to use the search function of this forum. I tested it once again with PeerGuardian. And it works!
@Hough NutZ and thejutt
Peergaurdian is a tool that acts like a firewall. It is designed to block out ip's that are considered annoying or just plain dangerous to file sharers(like RIAA and MIAA or the various groups that work for them).
I belive the new version(although I haven't checked or tried it yet- wil after this post though) is supposed to be better(obviously) and easier to update.
Using it should keep the known people who try to track filesharers and what they are sharing from finding you. This way you are less likely to be one of the examples they will know doubt try to parade in front of the media to scare off us innocent file sharers :)
What is it abt PeerGuardian that will ensure that "Genuine" p2p file sharers dont get blocked ?
and
What is it that ensures that these RIAA MoFos cannot slip under the radar and infiltrate ?
Im sure they can order and obtain DSL and Cable connection just as easily as we do.
Voting- well, I am not sure how we will account for the autheticity of the votes ?
I believe this is the kind of authetication issue where we might require "Byzantine Agreement" or "Active K-Key Trust to eliminate malicious nodes" These are specific paradigms being used to work on security issues in "ad hoc networks"
Many/most of the ip ranges are owned entirely by the companies we would wish to block. If there's some 'mole' on the inside who wishes to use p2p in a fair manner, well that's just too bad.
Like I said, if you correct the 1 erroneous RIAA entry, the number of BLOCKED ip addresses drops from >4 million to only about 1/2 million. (this is out of 2-4 BILLION ips)
If RIAA/MPAA/net cops want to use broadband connections available to home users, they'll have to pay for a business line to do so. Either that, or their efforts will be entirely small-scale and we need not fear them so greatly.
