If it detects the optical drives then the controller has to be working.Quote:

bad power cable? tried hooking it up to a different molex\power connector?
actually, do you hear the drive spin up when the comp is turned on?
and in the BIOS, while the drive is hooked up to master on primary IDE cable, go to standard cmos setup or something similar and press the button it says for "autodetect."
see if that does anything.
I have tried the Autodetect and it doesn't show anything at all, everything else is getting power and working ok in BIOS. Also i don't hear the harddrive spin when it boots up.
Did you try another power cable? Perhaps only one of the 5v or 12v lines are dead.
I just booted the computer to check what rossco said and went into BIOS and now the h.d. is showing up and working, thanx everyone for all your help, now i jus gota get my wireless mouse to tlk to the receiver.
What exactly was the problem?
I am not really sure at all it just worked so i am going to leave it alone like it is
lol.
if the drive wasn't spinning up before then there's probably osmething wrong with the power wire.
if you have problems again try switching the power connectors around.
