I went out with a bulimic girl when I was 19 for about 6 months, I didn't know she was that way inclined for a while. Just thought she was a bit skinny, it was hard for me to deal with - the relationship didn't last but she got help and by the third year of our uni course, she had got thro' the worst.

It's kinda sad. It takes over their whole lives - she was really intelligent but couldn't see past her fucked up notion of how others perceived the way she looked.

Anorexia is based low self-esteem, vanity, and extreme sensitivity to what others think. It has a severe cultural relation.

There is also anorexia athletism or some shit where the woman has a thing about working out all the time.

There is a disorder name for almost anything that doesn't fit a small cubby hole of normalcy.

There's probably one for extreme procrastination for all I know.

I've seen the cultural thing of many (especially white) women saying, "My butts too big," and it looks like a little girls butt. Couple some of that with low self-esteem and there ya go and some take "getting in shape" too far.

Maybe if some of this behavior weren't coddled with a name and actually shunned, woman wouldn't think it's the way to go so much.

Some girls learn bulimia from other girls ffs. Some disorder...it's contagious too.

If a person who has a nervous breakdown, for example, quit his stressful job at the onset of the problem, he might have been okay. If the OCD sufferer had recognised the problem and seen a professional at an earlier stage, she might be fine.

If the woman (or man) had decided that image wasn't such a big deal then maybe they wouldn't be sick now. It goes way beyond that once a certain point is reached and the image thing is often not the main factor when they purge.

You only see the small picture. With many bulimics, the problem isn't related to how they want to look - it's because they feel disgusted with themselves, for any reason, and the sickness itself has more to do with a desire to self-harm. It is a symptom of some other, deeply rooted, psychological problem.



Whatever, the point is that the sufferers are in pain and are sick individuals. It ain't funny and it's not big or clever to ridicule them.

continually glamorizing the "thickness" of their asses.

Between 50-66% of black women are considered "overweight" and not just
in a "cultural" sense. It's due to numerous causes, diet and socioeconomic factors being large contributors.

My grandmother, on my biological fathers side of the family died from hypertension.

Also you're assuming that it only affects females, in fact many men suffer from eating disorders...

The thing about the support sites is that as much as everyone wants to recover, everyone has a distorted image of what's beautiful, so yeah they think someone underweight is beautiful, but at the same time they dont want to think that.

They think that by telling the girls that the are beautiful and by reassuring them, it will stop them from losing more weight.

Andi, the girl who's pictures you've been posting has been in recovery multiple times, but eating disorders are a hard thing to get over. She is currently in recovery now. TRYING desperately to get over a disease which has taken over her life.

As a recovered anorexic I know how hard it is to get over, even now I still have a skewed perception of myself. I would never consider myself as beautiful, although people say that.

Most people who suffer from eating disorders are survivors of abuse. They find it's a way of coping for them. It's a mental disorder WHICH CANNOT BE HELPED.

It is also a disorder that isn't very understood, most hospitals will feed a patient to normal weight and then send them on their way but never treat the underlying problems. Recovery takes YEARS of phsychiatric help, alongside medication. It is a 24hour task for most people.

People do not "choose" to be anorexic or bulimic, despite what some of you morons think.

Laugh at them all you like, just make sure you're informed about what you're laughing at.

IT IS NOT A VANITY THING. It comes from low self esteem and is a control issue.
