Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
I haven't seen one post where someone says they were scammed, nor is there an option in the vote...
Quite a few years back, I decided to do a search to see what movies could be found, and located several sites that all professed to offer movies, music and other sundries, for a small fee.
Needless to say, I paid that fee, and downloaded a copy of BearShare from their FTP server.
A lesson learnt that day. I discovered almost immediately, by running another search, that such filesharing engines can be acquired freely, so I knew I'd been scammed, but it set me on the right road.
Never used Kazaa (even when I started, it had a bad rep.), and found BareShare, and ShareAZA, rather slow. Located my first torrent while doing a ShareAZA search, and discovered the speed surpassed regular gnutella speeds, so started investigating this new method of sharing.
Joined one or two dedicated torrent sites (no longer around, except FL of course), and became a torrent addict.
Truth to tell, I didn't have friends or family to advise me on how to fileshare, and had to find out the hard way. Have never looked back.

Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
I'm usually like a year or so behind the state of the art. I caught on to Napster and then Kazaa pretty quick, but i tried a first gen gnutella client and was totally turned off to it, so didn't hit on limewire until a bit late. It was a godsend for single-song and obscure downloads. Finally figured out torrents well a year or so ago, but need to get into oink me or something for a good selection and less frustration it sounds like.

Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
It's funny, I learn about new cracks and a good location to find them through news articles in google news.
-
Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
Via IRC, I guess. Which I abandoned as soon as Napster came out.

Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
Can anyone tell me what type of file is a NBZ in your movie downloads?
Is it a torrent ?
I also notice that there is a zipped file, do you have to download both ?
-
Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
I think you're referring to NZB not NBZ, correct? I think you ought to post your question in the appropriate forum. This thread is for 'how did you learn to fileshare'. good luck.;)
So, I first learned to file share by hearing about Kazaa through a friend. I only dabbled a little because I found too many corrupted files and viruses. Then a few years later a gaming buddy showed me how to use utorrent and that was it, I'm hooked! :naughty:

Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
Just kind of fell into it, I guess. Started with Napster, dabbled on usenet. Then Scour (remember?) turned me onto video, which led to FTPs, which were replaced by Direct Connect. That reigned supreme for many years and now torrenting just makes the most sense for the majority of file sharing.
An internet search here, a link from a friend there and you're on your way.

Re: How did you learn to fileshare?
Maybe he is using gates in an abstract sense, opening gates as in, finding more free stuff?
