You just have to be smart about your internet surfing and downloading habits. Do not download things that have 1012091092 seeds and are 2KB in size. Read comments posted about things you are downloading. If you are use Firefox and keep your operating system up to date, there is no reason why you should get a virus from using the internet.
At least in my experience anti-virus programs that are on "auto-protect" take up massive amounts of system resources. Just for your computer to fire them up when logging on makes your computer want to explode.

Norton and McAfee uses too much resources.
Used NOD32 on all my computers for years without any problems. It's light on resources so it's a really good app to have on a computer you use for downloading etc.
I've also installed a bunch of Symantec Clients in the last months @ work, and it's been pretty good. It doesn't use as much resources as the Norton package but I would prefer NOD32 in a server environment.

(and yea, I can't contact eset for support, if you're wondering...)
Try this.First check your server status at http://www.computersecurityassociate...ver_st.phpSave this page. Go to Nod control panel.Click on setup. Click enter entire advanced setup tree.Click update. On update server click edit/add. Add another server address (http://u__.eset.com) from the page you saved.Follow these steps and you should be okay.

Indeed.

Re: What Is the best Antivirus For now
NOD32 and Kaspersky have had their glory in the past, but right now they are not doing as well, they both have issues, I personally have used these apps for around 8-10 years.
Avira right now has a higher detection rating and seems to be smoking these both pretty good at the moment so I made a switch to the AntiVir PE Premium, and it's damm better then NOD32 and KAV.

Avira has a better version for free then Avast, and NOD32 or TrendMicro are not that good either. Right now I'd take Avira over all of them.
I've never seen TrendMicro ever rated as a good app since they've been around.

Just checked free version from Avira. And once I compare:
http://www.avira.com/en/products/personal.html
and
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Maybe it has better scan engine but comparing what you get in free version of avast? POP3, IM, P2P monitoring, firewall etc. I'll check up on forum mentioned above but for end / home user I still think avast has more to offer
As for "big" antivirus companies eg, McAfee, Norton, TrendMicro they always say or I wouldn't mind say that they are better.
I know out biggest telecom uses McAfee + TrendMicro. Right now I'm curious what IT admins in big companies use. Personally we have TrendMicro VirusWall here where I work and to tell you the truth I still didn't see / feel any problems or infection on any of our workstations.
But I'm always open for suggestions and advice :)

Truth is once something is introduced into the box it's going to be detected, having all these fancy addons and ports is just fluff, POP3, IM, P2P monitoring, firewall etc. BUT having a firewall I won't argue there...
Sorry what are you saying aboyt the "big" here?
Big companies typically stick with the big names, it's just the way it has been, like they say if it ain't broke... BUT put it this way, if they also have smart Admins then the boxes that are on the WAN are not able to do much other just some surfing to a few spots and that's about it, so REALLY no viruses/malware etc., should be getting in.
SO in truth these companies use the big names, but then they don't really have much going on for them either because if they did then they'd really see problems, if they really had boxes opened up to the WAN, and people could surf and do as much as a Home user, surf the porn and warez underground, P2P, etc... LOL....

I agree that most big companies block stuff so in reality they don't take the heat that average user does by clicking who know where and downloading everything where it says "Click and download one million $$$" :D
If I take Avira as avntivirus only. Do you have any recommended firewall by wilders security forum to go with Avira? Right know on my home pc I'm using Comodo. It can be pain to configure at start but after that works great :)

Re: What Is the best Antivirus For now
If this is just a small home box you are needing a firewall for personally I like hardware firewalls, then you don't have to fuss with anything and when downloading or playing games, or streaming media you don't have to worry about packet loss and the quality of your connection going down.
Software firewalls can and will kill connection speeds because they have to filter the traffic.
I'd personally recommend getting a Linksys BEFSX41:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...=3653843097B02
It's a Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall too, good stuff... :)

Re: What Is the best Antivirus For now
reasons why u should use Nod32
low on resources
automatic updates
offline updates available
excellent detection ratio

Re: What Is the best Antivirus For now
I use NOD32, but it did let a virus/irc trojan bot onto my computer and compromise my connection. I got disconnected from my isp for a couple days, and NOD32 was running on all of the computers in my house at the time with updated definitions. Had to format all the pc's in the house.

Re: What Is the best Antivirus For now
I use Eset smart security (nod with firewall).
I previously used Trend micro but when I installed Trend 2008 my pc lagged big time so I moved to Eset smart security which I find Ok. I also have SuperAntispyware installed as a spyware remover, it's best spyware software imo.
