Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Yeah, I'm using fatcat's tutorial found here:
http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-gui...ver-ssl-276623
Is that the correct guide that I should be following?
OK, I changed the port and I still cannot login to the FileZilla Server. Perhaps we can talk via msn?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Well you don't need to worry about SSL as at yet, it's just another security feature you can do later.
Best thing is to just install the server & the client and get them talking so you at least have an understanding of what it is you are doing, SSL can follow later.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Ok, I'm still re-reading through this. I still get the messege 'Error could not connect to this server' after I did a port foward for this.
Man I am getting frustrated with this. I'll go to bed so my head clears up and I can start fresh again tomorrow.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Hey Sgt Major, how do you set the bigger drive as your main hard drive source? Thanks.

For downloading your torrents to you mean?
uTorrent - options/preferences/downloads = input your drive & directory

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Well, when I go on 'My Computer', right-click and click on 'Manage I get the Computer management box. I then go to disk management and I see three drives. 1st drive is 10GB which is the main one, a 2nd drive is 2GB and a 3rd drive is 147GB. How may I get the 147GB hard drive to be the main drive? The 10GB drive is my main one right now. When I tried to do the uTorrent downloads folder, I could only see the 10GB drive. I would like the torrent downloads to be on the 147GB hard drive. I hope that makes sense to you.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Make a folder on the large drive then go to utorrent options, preferences
then downloads and then click the button on the right and find that folder for downloads.
Then all your files will go there.
Well after typing this I read sarges post he explained it to you already
sorry sarge

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Have you formatted the drive?
I suspect you haven't, so:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000
How to create a new partition or a new logical drive
To create a new partition or logical drive on a basic disk:
1. In the Disk Management window, complete one of the following procedures, and then continue to step 2:
• To create a new partition, right-click unallocated space on the basic disk where you want to create the partition, and then click New Partition.
• To create a new logical drive in an extended partition, right-click free space on an extended partition where you want to create the logical drive, and then click New Logical Drive.
2. In the New Partition Wizard, click Next.
3. Click the type of partition that you want to create (either Primary partition, Extended partition, or Logical drive), and then click Next.
4. Specify the size of the partition in the Partition size in MB box, and then click Next.
5. Decide whether to manually assign a drive letter, let the system automatically enumerate the drive, or do not assign a drive letter to the new partition or logical drive, and then click Next.
6. Specify the formatting options you want to use by using one of the following procedures:
• If you do not want to format the partition, click Do not format this partition, and then click Next.
• If you want to format the partition, click Format this partition with the following settings, and then complete the following procedure in the Format dialog box:
a. Type a name for the volume in the Volume label box. This is an optional step.
b. Click the file system that you want to use in the File system box.
You can change the disk allocation unit size, and then specify whether to perform a quick format, or enable file and folder compression on NTFS volumes.
Click Next.
7. Confirm that the options that selected are correct, and then click Finish.
The new partition or logical drive is created and appears in the appropriate basic disk in the Disk Management window. If you chose to format the volume in step 6, the format process now starts.
How to format a basic volume

2. In the Format dialog box, type a name for the volume in the Volume label box. This is an optional step.
3. Click the file system that you want to use in the File system box. If you want, you can also change the disk allocation unit size, specify whether you want to perform a quick format, or enable file and folder compression on NTFS volumes.
4. Click OK.
5. Click OK when you are prompted to format the volume. The format process starts.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Do I want primary or extended edition in step #3?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, so I now have a drive C of 10GB and a drive D of 139GB. Anything else or is that it for the formatting?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Nope, & now you can save your torrents to Drive D.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Thank-you for your help. Now I just got an email from their support saying my server has been upgraded for free to a 1GB Ram and an extra 160GB HDD. Can you give me a step by step setup for installing a FTP server? I suppose I should do that first before I install the FTP Client to transfer the files.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Good for you on the upgrade!
They gave me the upgrade of ram but not the extra 160 gigs of hard drive
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I also need to try a WEBUI to work for my Mac now.

Funny that, I had a real go at Max yesterday about pricing and what OVH & others were offering in comparison, I haven't had an offer of anything though! :D
You need to install FileZilla FTP server (or any FTP server you are familiar with) on your server, any client will connect to it.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, do you have any guides or tutorials for setting up a FTP server on my seedbox and do you also know if uTorrent WebUI will work for my Mac? WebUI basically is a web browser so it should work, right?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Just download the fliezilla ftp exe & run it. Leave it default and just click ok.
The things you change are later when you change the listening port and add a user, you can have a look here for a pictorial guide:
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t260011.html
The only thing I would change is the listening port, change it to somewhere between 55555 & 65000.
Then add a single user, you (chose your username & password), set your home directory to Drive D, give yourself full control of all files & directories, RWDA (then you can delete a folder from within your FTP client).
Webui is FF specific, so you only need to run FF on your MAC, it does not work with safari or opera etc.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I'm still having trouble with the FTP server and I am getting very frustrated. I got a few torrents seeding so I am happy with that. I'll try again tomorrow after work.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Setting up or connecting?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Both, I'll try again tomorrow.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Make sure you change the listening port number of your FTP client to the same one as you selected on your server, that is the major error.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
When I try to connect to the FileZilla server on my seedbox it says 'Error - connection to the server lost.' Then it keeps on trying to reconnect. For the Filezilla client on my Mac I get the messege 'Could not connect to server.' I made sure the ports for both the FTP Server and FTP Client are the same.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Did you set a home directory for that user you created?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I don't think I remember doing that. Can you explain to me how to do that?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Open up FLZ server interface
Click on the single user icon
Click on the shared folders
Click Add
Navigate to your torrents drive (D?)
Click ok
Tick all the boxes under files & directories
Tick Set as Home Dir
Click ok bottom left
try connecting
Might take a close down & restart of the FLZ server to get it going
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
It seems I can't even open up the user interface. I'll post screenshots of what's happening on my server and my Mac if that's ok with you. Edit - I'll uninstall all of them and start again from scratch. Re-reading over this is helping me a little bit.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Posting Mac SS won't help me :)
The same way you add a user is the same way you add the home dir, you can always do the edit users from the menu.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, a friend suggested that I download serve-u. I downloaded it onto my server and everything ran smoothly. Then I downloaded Cyberduck for my Mac, got connected and I successfully transfered a file! Now I just need to get a uTorrent WebUI to work on my Mac.

I thought Mac has FF?
I'm sure I have heard of other mac users using webui via FF.

Welcome.
No need to purchase, there is plenty of workarounds available

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I would recemmend TitaniumTorrents seedbox hosting. I have been with them for about 2 weeks and I am very impressed. I have the unlimited package and I get regular speeds of 1.5mb/s and on highly seeded torrents I have seen over 3mb/s. I love the webui interface and they seems to be a very professional service.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
If you are looking at a ready to use seedbox, I would recommend TitaniumTorrents seedbox hosting. I have been with them for about 2 week and regularly see speeds of 1.5mb/s in both directions and on well seeded torrents I have seen speeds over 3mb/s. Good professional service by people who know what is going on. Check them out.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
^^^ Lol, it sounds like he works for them.... 1.5mbs is about the speed that fios users get both ways. It's not very fast as seedboxs are concerned. I haven't looked at our site , so it could be a good value for someone looking for something a little better than their home connection
