It is talking about multiples of the standard transfer rate for dvd (1380KB/s), so 8x is 11040KB/s. Similarly, cd drive ratings are multiples of the standard cd transfer rate (150kB/s) and nothing actually to do with audio time.

well with cd's 74 minutes means 74 minutes of standard audio can fit on the disc. The unit of read/write speed (150kbps) came I think from the required audio read speed. I wonder why 1380KB/s is the value for a dvd, that only makes each disc the equivalent of 60 minutes.
I am just kidding around,adamp2p knew what I was saying wasn't serious.Loosen up a bit :)Quote:

@johnboy27,
Just a word of warning to you. This board is viewed by the world. If you choose to have negative comments about specific groups of people then you may find out that it's not appreciated nor acceptable.
I wasn't taking it seriously either. I was just telling you that this board is viewed by a lot of people. Some might take offence.
I was only trying to help you avoid problems.

As for the 60 minutes 1x DVD recording time. I'm not sure about that but I would assume it to be about video recording time and not audio.
I was just thinking, now that the dvd+r/-r drives are getting faster, are they on the same pace as the cd-r's used to be?
You know, the cd-r's started at really low digits like 4x and now their at 52x....how long do you think that took...
I wonder if the time it took to go from 4x to 52x it will be the same for the dvd+r/-r's
Hey Somebody1234, guess what? I got hit by a moving car yesterday while crossing the street by a Toyota 4 Runner! I got knocked on the groud, firemen came, police report, everything! Nothing broken, but serious bruises...I could not go right to the hospital because I had a Calculus 2 class 15 minutes later...so I went to class all bloody...to get the take home test for our class (edit, I went to the hospital right after)...we have a test on Monday...Quote:

Well that's not $60 more. We were talking Canadian dollars and that is in the USA so it works out to a lot more.
But I must say... That unit looks mighty interesting.
So what am I rambling about this for? Well I am going to get a pretty large settlement, I think, in the ballpark of over $5,000 US dollars! I am going to build a bad ass machine and get one of those 8X babies!

I think it's time for me to take a walk on the street...
:D :D :D
Canadians don't win settlements like that. It's not worth risking your life.
From what I saw in that Mike Myers movie it seems to me that there is a bit more common sense in Canada than in the US...eh?Quote:

Edit: and the only reason I was not KILLED was because I my reflexes work pretty well--well enough for me to protect my head from the impact...and, hey, a week later I am having trouble walking and the lower segment of my arm is deeply bruised--so much so that I cannot rest my right arm on any surface...the f*cking idiot who hit said he did not see me because the light blinded his eyes; but he still ran through a red light to hit me...
I should have guessed the idiot didn't know how to put the thing into reverse. :-"
Now, I'll bet he was Canadian lol.........just kidding man, sounds rough. Hope you get better soon. I been in a few myself and when it's multiple injuries everything is a task :(
Yeah, but I had a test on monday with this kind of math, and being injured and in the hospital certainly did not help me get a high grade...thus I need compensation...I am waiting for a personal injury attorney to contact me to start the process...that bastard who hit me needs to learn to drive more safely...

and WHAT do you think I should buy with the settlement? A P4 Extreme Edition?
only 5000 get a better laweyer and you can get a lot more money unless there is a law limiting the amount you can recive. rember you are not suing the person you are suing their insurance. Also with that type of money you can get a nice HD projector that can hook up to your computer for your downloaded movies and then can watch your nice tv shows in HD here is a nice one for a good price.
projector
also that price is in canadian dollors i belive. You would also need a nice surond sound systme, but it is not a bad way to blow 5 grand.
on ebay you can get a good one for a bout 2 g and that would be plenty left for your computer
I am saying $5,000 worst case scenario; after paying the lawyer's contingency fee (1/3), etc.Quote:

I think the guy's insurance policy probably has $15,000 for bodily injury minimum. I am not sure what the doctor's bills will cost, because I had to go to the ER. Not to mention, the f*cker broke my Ray-Ban's and scratched the crystal of my dead grandfather's Omega seamaster watch...
The laywer and I have not spoken details yet. But I think I am gonna give my current system to my brother for christmas and maybe upgrade to the P4 EE at that point, depending on whether or not I can find a motherboard that I can upgrade to a Prescott....maybe, we'll see...maybe I will buy a laptop too...and a hooker...just kidding...
man you are lucky you didn't die
yeah but dont Canadian drivers have mandetory ICBC insurance?Quote:
