I prefer chatzilla. Never tried MIRC (maybe once).
I hate IRC as it is. Chatzilla seems like the easiest IRC program to use.

XChat2 on Linux and Windows
I used to use mirc on Windows, but I decided to buy the XChat2 port instead. XChat2 is open source and you can basically do the same things - with slightly more effort though.
