well, i dont see whats with you guys!!!
eMule is one of the best programmes for downloading verifieds through, and i dont see what your problem is with leaving the PC on overnight... (that refers to people with unlimited bradband connection :P)
i think we should all be greatful for the people that bring us the verified stuff!!!!!!
tralalala
it's annoying
and what does tralalala mean? [/b][/quote]
I think it means 'i am a knobhead'
well, in the few months ive been here my fingers write that tralalala on its own... so i cant stop it, its on auto pilot. what does it mean?! maybe its the sound of a drunk who thinks hes singing the national anthem?  lol
tralalala
about time you get sober now  :lol:Quote:

lol... but hey, i aint the only one that puts his screen name at the bottom of each message!! for instance UKMan, brotherdoobie and more (cant think of more at this particular moment)
tralalala
:)
2 question jetje: 1) was that smiley a "nicer" way of a bump and 2) how did you get that link for your post count?!
tralalala
Yes an ordinairy bump
the 2nd question i don't get? link for postcount?
k-lite k++ 2.4.3 :D
I am a newbie......so I use k-lite and grokster......
Used to be I could see movies with no prob, now I have too much prob with trying to watch them that,, I don't bother anymore ... A friend tried to get me to use newsgroups , but that to me is all another language.
My daughter is the one who uses these more for songs..and the one she uses is k-lite..so I guess the vote goes there..
well, i still think it was like more "easy" in a way without that link for the posts... lol
tralalala
EDIT: maybe to prevent bumping this one should be pinned? just a thought
I use the azureus bittorrent client most of the time. It has a nice look and there is a linux version.
I recently started using Sharaza even though i only just got back online.
PS This poll should be split into Network and client.
Neo what do you mean by splitting it into "network and client"?? you mean to ask what network you use (fasttrack, gnuttella2 etc) and another question asking what client you use most on that network?!
i still think this poll is good enough as it is...
tralalala
I only use Kazaa Lite K++ at the moment
Could anyone suggest any other spyware & adware free programs that are 56k friendly?
56k friendly?? my my thats a little bit difficult...
k-lite seems to be one of the only (if not THE only) 56k friendly filesharing programme...
adware&spyware free programmes: soulseek, eMule/Donkey, IRC
tralalala
BitTorrent for me 99% :) of the time 1% K++ ;) .
whats eMule like? , has anyone got a screenshot of it? , and can i choose if i want share or not?
cheers for the help :)
gues you can ask that now in the emule/edonkey part of the forum :rolleyes:Quote:

btw tralala maybe now (the forum changes) you see why i did bump this one before
ummmm jetje... i actually dont see why you bumped it... lol little thick tralalala isnt thinking straight, could you give me a clue?? lolol
tralalala
They were using it as a guide for how to set up the current forum template. If you look at the program sections and the order they are in, you will see it pretty much follows the poll results.
TD
I actually use eMule plus, not eMule.
Unfortunately, KL hasn't been very useful for my needs in quite some time. I do reserve upload bandwidth for the network — you've got to stay loyal to the girl who brung ya. ;)
well ummmm whats the difference between eMule and eMule Plus?? is it a bit like kazaa and k-lite?!
tralalala
No, more like the difference between KL 2.4 and KL 2.0. U can check out some screen shots here: http://emuleplus.sourceforge.net/
eMule is just fine as it is, in fact, I know several people that prefer eMule to eMule plus. Personally, I like the GUI better and find the plus package more user friendly.
BTW: I'm using version 1h; I haven't upgraded to 1i yet.
emule plus releases are not as often as the officials. We do try hard to get it updated as often but its not possible most of the time. The program is most customisable GUI wise, and is more eye candy than official.
However some prefer emule to emuleplus like guit_steel has stated. I moved from emule to plus and happy as i am with it.
Im using 1i RC6 [its a betaversion] and ive got no problems with it, but unfortunately a few have reported crashes. Got a few dumps received so hopefully it'll be solved in next release.
wait a minute thisiswhoweare, are you an eMule Plus developer?!?!?!
wow, you must teach me some programming, wouldnt mind putting up a P2P programme of my own that would be very, VERY popular... (hey k-lite, just joking) :P
tralalala
lol hardly. :D
if you check my links i post (threads which i created) you'll know my username on the emuleplus boards and my status. Which btw is betatester :)
Though if my programming skills (if i could really ever call them that) are decent enough, i will try and help out but at this moment in time, they're not worth using because they're shite lol.
1) k-lite
2) emule
hey, why call em (your skills) that?! you have skills, thats something to be proud of. i wish i had those skills.. lol
tralalala
p.s: i can barely use HTML...
I use K-Lite the most.
where is dc++ in that list? i cant vote!
1. DC++
2. K-Lite
3. ICQ heh-heh..
K-lite
mIRC
Bittorent
calling it as i see it :)Quote:

gotta get back to C now. :(
for hand in tomorrow.
Brutal p2p network breakdown:
BitTorrent isn't even a network, so it's out of the question even though it's very useful for really big files. Also, it works by using trackers which work both ways -- not only connecting people to each other to get files but (with the experimental BitTorrent versions) logging those connections. BitTorrent is simply transparent when it comes to being monitored. Bit Torrent has one advantage -- I don't think it will die easily. It's already TOO popular. And it cannot be destroyed in the typical sense because it is NOT a network -- it is only a distribution scheme. Any website sharing 'questionable' material can be shut down, but BT itself is squeaky clean.
Direct Connect (and DC++) has some good abilities, but its strength is also its weakness -- it creates private networks by design which do not scale into the millions (to my knowledge.)
Gnutella is worthy of note because it is neglected as a 'serious' network anymore, despite the fact it has advanced immensely since its initial concept. Kazaa is BASED on it, but stagnated -- so Gnutella v0.6 protocol has surpassed it and CAN scale indefinitely at the price of only a 'window' of the network (about 10,000 to 100,000 computers) can be scanned at a time.
Shareaza (Gnutella 2) has some minor advances over Gnutella 1 and connects to multiple networks, but the price for extra connectivity is extra bandwidth useage just when sitting idle. It's a cool program, but even the experts don't know how to get the most out of it yet. Shareaza is a weird bird in all regards -- it connects to multiple networks: Gnutella 1, Gnutella 2 (which the Gnutella 1 developers call Mike's Protocol because they feel like it is a hostile bastardization of Gnutella 1 designed only to destroy Gnutella 1 but without many new innovations), E-mule, and BitTorrent. However, this comes at a price -- extra bandwidth used and stability. It has a lone developer, who is very eccentric and hates BearShare's CEO and head programmer (BearShare is a Gnutella 1 only app) with a passion -- the feeling's mutual and it threatens to destroy both networks at times, as they've taken out their grevances by blocking each other's program in multiple versions.
WinMX, I don't know how it's doing, but I've heard (and seen once when I tried briefly to use it) that it is the network of perpetual queues. You might be in queued position 100+ for a file that'd likely take 4 hours to download if started now. Given even that the 'average' file that source is uploading only takes 1 hour instead of 4, that's a 100 hour constant wait. That is not workable.
E-mule may have the same problem, and I know it also has forced sharing of files. What's more, just like Kazaa's PL system, if you're not uploading at at least 10 KB/sec then your download speed/s will suck. It's favoritism, which is ok in small doses, but in extremes makes a network unworkable. I'm pretty sure it has partial file sharing, but that's a moot point (even a BAD thing) for small files.
The lowest bandwidth-use network seems to be E-mule (from what I've been told) or Gnutella using BearShare or Shareaza in leaf mode (or like I do often -- no hosts connections at all.) Uses less than 1 kilobit/sec on average. (It'd have to be >8x that to equal 1 KB/sec overhead.) This is GOOD for 56k's and broadband alike, because it means less bandwidth is wasted on excessive connectivity for no net gains.
ok to clear things up....emule does not have forced sharing. Users can share or unshare whatever files, but doing so will mean you dont get credit.
It does have partial sharing which allows others to download from you when a chunk has been completed.
If your not upload at 10KB, then your download will be ratioed down. But the download speed would still be pretty decent.
Sharing 10 KB/s is favoritism? How many KB/s are u taking off the network? Sorry, but looking to max one's dl speed and min one's ul speed is not my idea of sharing. If u ask me, it's borderline leeching.Quote:
...if you're not uploading at at least 10 KB/sec then your download speed/s will suck. It's favoritism...
Personally, I set my ul to 80% of capacity which is above 10 KB/s. Except for those still using dial-up, I don't understand this being unreasonable. Even so I believe the Plus ratio is 1:4 (other eMule versions may differ), so if u only limit ur ul to 5 KB/s, u will still be allowed to dl 20 KB/s. This is unfair? C'mon.
hey thisiswhoweare, what are you handing in? or have you handed it in allready? if its something for a grade of somesort, i wish you luck!! :)
tralalala
my assignment for one of my modules at university. :( was up all night and dont think i'll get more than 10%. Glad that my holidays officially began as soon as i handed them in...shame ive got 3 other assignments to worry over now.
Appreciate the good luck.
 guess i'll start on them tomorrow.
hey mate, the thing is you should enjoy your studying while you still can, i guess thats why you chose it?? cos you thought you would enjoy it!! so do so!!! if not, youll just pressure yourself, and by doing that your works quality will go down...
still, im sure you know this, and im sure youll get a pretty good grade (keep us all updated ;) )
tralalala
:P its not that i dont enjoy it, its so much to do in so little time. Anyway i appreciate the "pep" talk, :) but i dont think its something worth updating in this thread. Its already offtopic :D.
