So its liquid that I just pour onto the stuff and rub it off....?
I also read on the net that once you use the thermal pad once it melts on there and is much harder to get off so I dont think ill use the thermal pad untill i get paste.
Edit: 3rd gen...I thought methalayted spirits was some kind of drug since they said they wouldnt sell it to me lol
methylated spirirts is basically an alcoholic liquidQuote:

don't use anything metallic or you'll scrape the bottom of the heatsink
Did you go to the Arctic Silver website that I posted for you and read their advice?
Yes I went to their site and read everything, however I couldnt find how to get a thermal pad off. It just showed how to put the paste on which is way more complicated then i thought it would be lol...let me go try to get this shit off..im guessing i shouldnt let the alcohol run into the other paste on the hs right?
Ok, I think I was successful. I got the whole pad off and then rubbed it vigorusly to get everything off. I can still see a little square if i look at the hs juuuuuust right...but thats not comin off fo sho...thanks for the help guys!!
Damn...If I would have just thought to get some artic silver I would have my Computer running by tonight. but nooooo
calm down there big dawg! Take your time...I am curious why you are messing with the HSF already...I thought all you were trying to do now was put the basics together...I thought we understood that was the main objective at first...to get the thing up and running. :01:
Edit: and you should definatlely remove that money avatar because you dont have it anymore!
because thermal paste is alot better then thermal pad...so i took the pad off so i can put paste
Would circut city have paste? or best buy? or would it have to be just a computer store..cuz none of them will be open tomm lol.
Also...does anyone know how to mount another fan onto a HS? I have a spare 80mm fan and I think that might help cool my processor more then this little 60mm thing
lol i still have every bit of that money
Another bigger fan? Depending on the heatsink, it may be possible to screw directly into it....whilst not pretty or up to some peoples standards, itll do :P
Well I might be able to just screw it in yeah...but IT WONT FIT lol the fans to big to be screwed into the heatsink even..maybe glue...but i think NOT lol it would cool it off ALOT tho i bet
Plus it would glow blue :D
Probably not.
If you want to use a bigger fan, the best method is to install a fan adaptor.
VB has posted a tutorial on how to make one or you can buy them.
Moving the fan away from the HS will help eliminate the deadspot.
ah i didnt know the size of your heatsink....in that case, you could spend hours making a brace to support it, or do what everyone else does and lob it in a handy location of your case
They won't give you instuctions on how to remove the thermal pad. They expect you to use the pad and not Arctic silver.
You can use the 60mm fan for now. Put it together with the basics first. If you get into each detail of how you could modify you installation on the first time this will take forever.
Ask me later, after your computer has been running for at least a few day, so that I can help you with using a 80mm fan.
If you would have listened to my previous post then you would be able to be running it today instead of having to wait until you can get some Arctic silver (it's gonna be hard to find some on xmas day).
Oh Dad.
You're such a bummer....
Hey bigdawg, my stuff came today too!
And 15 mins earlier than Fedex predicted last friday!!!
Love my new Thermaltake Volcano 11+, it screams!
And my new mobo rox.
Btw, bigdawg, did you get any free newegg stuff with your buy? I got a case badge, over a shirt,
But the case badge looks real nice to my Athlon XP one.
I got an ASUS case badge which looks freaking AWESOME...and an Athlon XP badge of course. The athlon XP one looks kinda ugly tho...what do ya expect lol
Hey...do i need to use long screws to screw my mobo in? Or short ones...I screwed one short one in and it seemed ok...is that right?
use the short ones with a flat bit on them (a washer)
why did u get the retail cpu???
cuz retail have better warrenty and a hsf included
retail do have a better warranty but as soon as u remove that thermal pad and use artic silver u invalidate ur warranty...ur as well going for oem and with the money u save get a better hs&f
lol well already bought the retail...and already took the thermal paste off...who cares lol
which way do my fans blow air???lol this might be a weird ass question but I need to know how to mount them.
My fans
Should the Cooler Master sign face the direction in which I want the air to flow?
I could have got a 9700Pro for $30 more...
what are you talking about big dawg--you mean 50 bucks more, right?Quote:

I think so to, impossible to tell from the picture though.
Look on the fan frame. There are arrows that show air flow direction.
you should do it!Quote:

Heres the inside...and hell yah i love leds and cathodes lol
that is one small case....or is it the picture....but if that is your case, i think the led fans should be enough to lit up your case.....so im guessing you've installed your cpu or did u do that psu trick.
Its a pretty big case. Looks good!
Having any more probs big dawg? Come on, I got all my stuff installed hours ago!
Although im still having internet probs, (cant get bittorrent to work) stupid dual LAN>
