But the only one that I found that realised all of them for what they were was....
PC-Cillin
Just because Nortons didnt recognise them as a threat doesnt mean theyre not..you try double clicking on one of the ones that it didnt see as a threat and see what happens..
I didnt think so...lol
Ok ill be back soon with my Windows and Office exploits real soon like if everybodys all keen?
i hope this enlightened people to what is out there and that you cant be too careful
Cheers to everyone who participated in these "testers" and shoutouts to UltimateJester for hosting the virus package for me..top stuff mate
wow AVG sucks
so what would happen if you ran all of these at the same time?
Well it cleaned some, and quarentened others, all caught.
someone with nortons start executing the so called "not a threat to nortons" (all 302 of them)viruses and see what happens please ..back up what youve posted..if you trust in your antivirus that well then youve got nothing to lose...
I eagerly await your results :D
funny thing i uninstalled pc cillin a week ago
interestingly i got all but 6, with Symantec Corp 8.1.1.314 (up-to-date)Quote:

Wizz & Balamm..i smell something funny..lol
And no one wants to take me up on my offer to execute these so called "non threats to nortons"? Balaam?i thought youd be at the front of the pack the way you were going on about it
In future please refrain from posting shit if your not prepared to back it up..i hate mouth offs..
Very Interesting. I'm using Norton SystemWorks 2003 (Updated via LiveUpdate) and caught all but 6 as well. Here's a screenshot:Quote:

what didn't it find with my post
Im scared to run it, Ive gotten screwed by virus's before. But im running McAfee pro 7, does anyone know how that did?
You won't learn until you try these things. Grab the bull by the horns so to speak. Too many people are not getting clued up these days and it's scary. Just ensure you take precautions and listened to everyone's advice previous and you should be fine. I'm interested what results you'd get also...Quote:

I can tell ya but I wont...
Most of the remaining files were droppers. Not viruses themselves, but they could install a virus.Quote:
Dropper:
Any program which, when run, installs another program. A common kind of dropper is a virus dropper, which when run will install a virus in the machine.
I guess I gotta get an anti dropper program now too
Hmmm......using Avast Home Edition (Freeware). It got 582...not toooo bad, I
hope!
Here's my screen shot.....

thats all i asked...
These tests are just "theory" tests and for the average home user etc that no nothing about this sort of stuff these are real life scenarios. so the point of these test exercises was to make people aware of stuff, so we'll leave it at that...
Edit: gotta go edit my other post...lol
Ok, I did it, McAfee found all but 6.

EDIT: Does anyone know why it says I scanned 621 files?
As I extracted the files (drag and dropped from win RAR) my AV program (norton 2004) started poping up messages about the viruses (see below). Some of them it fixed others it couldn't. I think it got everything...

You should disable it while you extract them, then enable then scan the folder.

Disabling your AV might not be to bad an idea. I forgot to disable Avast and it went NUTS when I started downloading the .rar. Not the first time I've seen the virus pop-up, but I aint never seen it scroll :D ! It scrolled for a while, too! Damn.....
As for those scared of catching a virus, been there, done that....my first was the Stealth_b boot virus. Anybody remember that little gem? Hmm.... :01: I still got a copy on a floppy from college. It's in a copy of VGAPlantets. Can't finsh the game cuz of it......ah well.
Still got a copy of that virus mate?...feel like sending us a copy?
WTF??????
NAV 03 only caught 300??????????? (updated yesterday)
heh, i forgot i have auto protect enabled, so had to 'ok' about 300 times
it caught the fuckers as soon as i un-rared
the remaining it left in the folder, so i scanned em and nothing
^$%*(&%^% *(&%*%(*% ing norton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^^^^^^^^the words replaced by these symbols are unspeakable,
even in here
wait so this virus stuff is safe right? :smilie4:
ok. dowloading now. will test it with AVG7 pro without heuristic and with and also
Kaspersky.
results will follow.
edit: Results.
Well First I'd like to pronounce the injury I just got. It's called RSI for prssing a lot of OK's during the tests.
Here are the results of the jury. Kaspersky 4.5.0.94 let me down beyond words. Maybe I just didn't configure Kaspersky the right way but scanning 594 files and finding only 75! is totally out of order. Kaspersky is now deinstalled.
AVGPro7 (7.0.209) scanned 602 files (?) and found 562. This is a scare but I think I can explain that due to the many trojans in the test.
Although anti-virus manufacures try to make an all-round programm, the fact still is they are anti-virus and not specialized in trojans. So if an anti-virus programm doesn't recognises a trojan it is not the end of the world bur surely it is a sign to get a good trojanhunter.

It seems that the majority of us using Norton & McAfee are catching all BUT 6 in our tests, aside from those using other AV software...
nostalgia - I think it's time to find a better AV, your results are appalling.
So... these 6 that the 2 main AV did not detect, someone mentioned these as 'droppers'. Would this mean Norton and McAfee came top of the league?
Just downloaded the latest version of Pc Cillin ;)Quote:

Well I can't be bothered to go back and see how that AV fared in this test, but I've used Norton for many years now, and swear by it.

Norton SystemWorks 2004 is available on P2P networks if you're interested.
Key Features:
Norton AntiVirus™
Norton Utilities™
Norton™ Password Manager
Norton Goback™ Personal Editon
Norton Cleansweep™
i used to use that nortons, but it was to resource hogging...mind you i had a shitty computer back then. Now i got a raid setup/mirror image on a real beast of a machine i must try it again when i get some time
edit: pc-cillin is the goods!!!
These type of packages and threads should be sent to the Virus protector providor. So they know.and fix and apologize.and pay us tons of cash for helping them-seriously
I updated to System Works 2004 pro and was very disapointed. It hoggs resources, constantly deletes my hacking/cracking tools even when I exclude its folder and files, and was too much of a pain in the ass.
I un-installed it and went back to Norton System Works 2003 :)
Anyone No which is better Norton Anvirus 03/04 or Norton Corporate Edition?
I have heard alot of people saying that coporate edition is better and to stay away from regular norton.
Someone please elaborate.
The corporate edition is better because don't eat all resources like Norton Antivirus does. ;)Quote:

I just wanted to know if Norton anti-virus has better defense and detection than corporate edition, I don't care about resources cause it only takes about 2% cpu and 12 mb memory.
Do they use the same core engine?
Pc-cillin is a joke.
Stay away from Norton - use McAfee or AVG. :01:
Did no one take this package to a website that does online scanning?
Ive been waiting for someone to post to that effect
Anybody wanna tell me what's wrong with norton. It caught 600 on mine. Everyfile is infected except readme.txt
McAfee is very bad to have. Its process threads can be easily killed with a simple executible. One day I used a .vbs file and mcafee got killed. Most viruses have a built in code to shut down Vshield and disable startup. Even if the proccess is killed in Norton its still active in the kernel memory and will still protect. Avg is average at best.
Norton & Zonealarm are unbeatable together.
