I rip at 192k, but now I just compress the WAV file with FLAC to get lossless quality and small size (sort of). You can check that out here.
In my PC if it shows bitrate 1411k it is a .wav file.Quote:

Variable BitRate shows high numbers also, like 400k to 700k or so,
depends on the song.
Highest CBR im aware of is 320k

i cant tell a diff between 128 and 192+ i have found that bass is a little better
i usually notice that the higher the bitrate, the more clearer each of the instruments sound...and sharper, and louder.........does anyone else notice this?
also, how come when you convert music file from a cd to an mp3, you can't get the same ratio quality? it's always a bit less
yeah I notice that...sometimes 320 sounds a little better then 192...i like 192 though...it sounds great and doesnt take up a lot of room like 320.
GS, I'm guessing that you use WMP? It can't display VBR rates correctly.

you can add the option for the folders to show bitrates.
I still use WMP-9 a lot, also WinAmp 5
plus shitload of other players that comes with codeck packs. :lol:

the only one here that should have one of those raid setups is funky, and he doest. What are you going to use 2.2TB for? and wut if your dog pisses on it or you drop it out the window by accident... then all that is gone.

Porn filmed in cars, Porn filmed in the Storage Hangar and Porn filmed at the local Store.
edit / typo
lol.. i knew gen was into cars.. but not that much.
@Funky:
SuSE is a distro of Linux, which is an alternative OS. A RAID array is multiple hard drives in one array, so the computer thinks it is one large hard drive.
@mogadishu:
I do a lot of high-end video editing, that's why I need so much space.
@3rd gen:
I'm a poor student too...
car videos in cars (funnily enough), about 65GB of music in Storage (not moved it over yet), and partial emule downloads in Store :)Quote:

im just curious.. what kind of resolution are we talking about.. what makes it so big?
oh and to the topic, i prefer vbr atleast 160kbs
LOL. I'm talking about large quantities, making professional movies, etc.
But for the most part they are around 700-1200 square.
192 is the scene norm atm... so i say thats probley the best.
From a sharing point of view I like CBR192, and though I have some diskspace....it's not unlimited, and my line ain't the greatest either :(
I listen to music from the computer either through my stereo or my headphones, and think CBR192 sounds good enough
However, if I had unlimited HD-space and a SUper-DUper-maXI-speED connection, I would prefer all my musicfiles in wav-format...
Here's an example of CBR 192 kbps
(edit: spam)
:01: MusicWorld Bump! :01:
:P So the other Thread can stick to helping out with the Sticky.We can debate in here. :P
Great bump - I missed this one when it came aound - I think I may have been on vacation.......where I was listening to my favorite VBR MP3's :P
:lol:
This is from my SoulSeek rules:
CCQuote:
[01] 1. Share at least 25 organized, FULL albums at 192 CBR or VBR
i'm voting 192. even though 320 sounds better (depending on the ripper) and i'm not stingy with my hd space, but 192 is more common and so i have more of that.
I usually d/l at CBR 128 (seems the most common) but with artists I really like I try to get 192. Or if I want to play them on a good PA system for a show etc.
Why is there no CBR 128 on the poll !
It is hard enough to get some tracks at 128 let alone 192 !
I find a lot of 127 or 129 on Kazaalite - what gives ?

It's only a 6 second long track - maybe it was Sting having a sneeze attack...... :P
HQ VBR Nowadays When I Need...
cbr 192
the only vote for 256cbr, no wonder I cant find too many of em. For me it sounds great, the less lost the better, I only ever rip at that, I wanna hear as close as possible to the original, would go for 320 if I had more space. 256cbr with mp3gain to stop me constantly having to leap onto the volume controls from track to track. I listen a lot on headphones, shitty neighbours, and although 192 is ok, 128 just has no sparkle left in it, like a flat pint, :music1:
i'ts lonely out here :( , there must be another vote for 256cbr somewhere out there :P :lol:
lame3.96 - dbpoweramp - mp3gain - does it for me ;) (EAC occasionaly)
EDIT: and as I post, 2 more for 256cbr, bless ya brothers ;) :D
