7, i dont have money for Watercooling... :frusty:
Anyone can make their own parts as well, maybe not as advanced as a Video board or whatever, but a PC board is not that hard to make. A wire here and wire there, a chip here and chip there, and a little bit of solder and you've got yourself a pc board.
And as far as the car thing, just knows how to make a car part doesn't make you a car guru, millions of factory workers around the world make car parts, but they have no idea how to repair a car. Same goes for PC parts, I have a buddy that works for Intel, and he makes the processors, but can't figure out how to install windows if his life depended on it.
You have engineers who know more about making parts and making them work in pcs, but many of them still have problems getting their computer to work. The whole computer guru thing is just thrown completely out the door. Some people know about some things and others about something else. Very few people can do it all.
Just my two cents, :D and I've decided not to rate myself, it's pointless.
Edit: just noticed I was a little harsh, not trying to flame anyone

6.5 or 7...that would be me going by ABUs rubric..were going by his rubric not your .000001 thing..why u laugh at that 4th gen?
Because of a number of factors, not least your 32 page thread on building a pc and your "should I use rubbing alcohol to rub the thermal pad off the heatsink" question :)Quote:

My time spent on this forum is something I consider valuable and enjoyable. However your presence (well, what you say, actually), is what makes my stay unpleasant.
So please, don't start again!
I already know VB's opinion on this matter. It's not like there's something I can do to change his mind.
So please, zip it and stop yapping.
guys, stfu with the craziness and flaming. let's all be nice here.
i wonder wat vb would be. hmmmm.... 9.99 probably. lol. clocker, hmmm.... he knows a lot, but hasn't had too much experience with all of them, so maybe a 9.5
if that's wrong, clocker and vb, point it out. lol
7 And I'm pushing It
6.5-7
i kinda disagree with the premise that overclocking and experience with overclocking is the measure of how good a person is with computer hardware. there's a lot more to it than that, and there are plenty of people who are whizzes with hardware who've prolly never overclocked at all.Quote:

as a hobby, yeah, overclocking and Xxtreme k00ling take a certain amount of learning & skill, but how important actually is that skill? it's just a hobby. being able to build & maintain stable workstations, servers and LANs, being able to resolve hardware conflicts without immediately resorting to a reformat, etc.... that's the kind of stuff you could actually get paid for. for example, if a person thinks he has to reformat his Windows drive just 'cause he changed his motherboard, then he ain't that good.
If bigdawg is 8 then im 30'000.Quote:

Sorry Brainiac, but you are dead wrong. If you change your motherboard (go from a say, Dell->an Abit) you need to reinstall Windows, it's just a fact of life.

perhaps we should be nice and not get this thread closed

I was going to rate myself at about a 6 point something, but since I fried my Radeon in a stupid watercooling accident I have self-relegated myself down to a 3. :(
i said reformat, not reinstall. two completely different things. sometimes you can switch motherboards without reinstalling (i.e. you stuck with the same mobo/chipset brand), sometimes you've gotta reinstall in order to get working drivers onto the HD (i.e. you switched brands)... but there are a lot of self-styled hardware "gurus" out there who will absolutely insist that you need to reformat and completely abandon the partition just 'cause you swapped a new mobo or video card in, and that's just ridiculous.Quote:

I am sorry, but there is no way you can take a hard drive, from, say, for the sake of arguement, off of my DELL, and plug it into big dawg's ASUS and expect to boot up Windows effectively.
That remains a fact of life. ;)
Now it is no Michael Jordan manuever to move data from one hard drive to another; I do this all the time, whenever I perform a back-up. I hope that is what you are referring to. Or, you could mean a GHOST partition.
Edit: and Brainiac, it is good to see you around. :)
Since everyone is practically tearing their heads off, I just might try to cool things down B)Quote:
