You mean you actually get to pass every year even if you do crap on your tests???? :o
In Belgium you have to have at leat 50% on every main subject to pass the year. Basically, if you don't get a 55% average they won't let you pass <_<
I had to double 5th year in highschool because I failed economics and maths, Funnily enough I got an average of 80% the next two years
we dont have tests at the end of every year ... but when we learn we learn by order of how well we study - we have top set middle set and bottom setQuote:

I would appreciate it if someone could do the effort to explain this freaky education system to me.
In Belgium you finish elementary school at age 11-12. Highschool is age 12-18. We get exams at least twice a year. You cannot chose your subjects you can only chose a package. Everyone is obligated to take maths for example. We have 3 different departments. BSO, to learn a profession, TSO, to learn sth technical and ASO, general education. You need an ASO degree to go to college or uni, or, in some cases a specialised TSO degree.
At uni we have exams twice a year as well. You need a 60% average to pass the year. Most courses last 4 year...
 that's why i rushed to get out!.. to confusing :lol:Quote:

Generally, you get three exams/year from age 12-16, the two from age 17-18 (assuming you don't have to redo a year). However, I don't think you absolutely need a ASO degree for university - my cousin didn't.
Five if you've got a good fakbar... :lol:Quote:

Ah yeah, KSO, forgot about that one.
fakbar?
Do I spot a 'kaloot' there? <_<
*sings 'Brusselse studenten van de Klauwaert en de Geus'*

No - just the Letteren fakbar. The smoke-filled 19th century dump we call home, with moderately-priced alcohol, frequent free - euh - "vaten" (kegs ?) from the profs, and general humiliation (Neanderthal Night, anyone ? :D )
But do you study in Leuven?
Yup.Quote:

I think I'm getting it, with a few minutes delay.
... but explain anyway ?
erm see...I used to study at VUB. And we have this thing against the students from Leuven (well, not really, it's all folkloristic). We call them 'kaloten', from 'katholieken'.
We sing stuff like ' A bas les calotes' and we basically make fun of you
Goddamnit, it hit me -
You're one of them godless VUB'ers , aren't ya ? :angry:Quote:
In naam van K.B.S. doet open 't café
De Brusselaar sluipt door de stad
Hij dorst naar het bier in zijn Brabantse stee
Doet open of 't café ligt plat
Heh heh - a girl I know studies there now. What's it like ?
EDIT : posted just after you did. I know about the rivalry, just didn't really get it. Must be a slow day :P
I sure am :D
Leve VUB
That's my club, VSKM, was praeses last year :PQuote:

Als de VSKM gaat op de zwier
In onze kring zitten vele fitte gasten
Die houden van plezier en van de lol, ja lol!
Tot spijt van alle droevige kwasten schenken wij de glaasjes nog eens vol, ja vol!

I absolutely loved studying there. Great campus, parties every night and Luigi rocks :D
I don't think we have a song - at least I haven't heard it. Then again, we're one of the smallest clubs in Letteren. Which has it's advantages :)
Letteren?
Cool, I used to study Germaanse at VUB. :D
A fellow Arts student (that's how the KUL site translates Letteren, anyway). Nice.
Though I don't study any languages - what a disaster that would be. If it ain't Dutch, I can barely communicate
(-> just read my posts for proof - Vlenglish, as my old prof used to call it)
wtf :fugley: I got no idea what your on about
I went to school with jazzthefunk. Me and another mate had this trick where we'd ask him to come over for a second (as if was going to tell him something) and then as he got close make a dramatic dive off our chairs and he'd get in trouble for "pushing people off their stools". Worked at least 5 times a week throughout highschool

you tell me !
and if you are in school now what r ya ?
An outcast, a bloody pariah.
My friends sold me out.
that's grades 7-9, came out of it paranoid, and believing I was worthless.
Grades 10-11, I had the record in hours of absence without leave, had stopped caring about things but still made it without being expelled, got two scholarships for being gifted. Did group-assigments on my own, 'cuz the others were "busy", in short I was the one got used all the time by the other, "cool" kids.
Grade 12 I had enough, stopped doing stuff for others, and got new friends, sort of.
At the end of it, my grades were crap though.
  i might try that with a friend of mine! It's a great idea! :lol:Quote:
