Yeah, Im thinking 1.6 will be fine and we just need to OC it some.
I see people on newegg reviews that got to 1.7 on 2vcore on air so it should be alright.

Ive read the same thing on alot of threads about ocing the mobile on other forums, wich is why almost all of them go for the abit nf-7. Wich is what he should have done.Quote:

I also heard that it doesn't work well on Asus boards, possibly for the same reason.
Ok, we have the FSB set at 133Mhz (266Mhz effective) and the multiplier at 14, which is stock.
The only problem is, the CPU runs at 800Mhz...wtf! I go into bios and set it at 200Mhz FSB and multiplier 9.5, which should be around the same speed, and it wont even boot up...makes no since...
I think that may be part of the problem with the Asus board.Quote:

well i guess we can always send it back and get the abit nfs-7..but id rather not...ive seen people have like 2.5 and 2.6 on the same asus bored we have so i duno..
this is bigdawgfoxx
its wierd...on the phone they call it a soo s ...like moo soo
Ive always called it as uh s
lol, i say it is (a-sus) not (a-soos).Quote:

and that took me about 5 mins to figure out what u were talking about btw. :P
haha yah sorry i didnt really know how to spell it but u know what i meant lol
OK we got it at 1.83Ghz. It is still running at 42C Idle and 1.6Vcore..now for a benchmark and then overclock.
Time to update the sig. ;)Quote:

Yah lol..Ok we ran aquamark3 with his old cpu it was 11,000 new one is 17,000.
I will post all the aquamark stuff when were done.
The cpu hit 45C though at stock speeds and at 1.6Vcore.
I believe it should run lower then that with such a nice heatsink...We are gona try to reapply the paste prob.
I set it up at 166X 13 which was a decent overclock, just to look at temps, and it just reset itself back to 831Mhz...why does it keep resetting itself...its almost like its a locked chip..
Alright...The CPU seems to want to run to hot.
I am thinking we send the cpu back and the mobo and get a new mobile 2500 and the abit nf7-s. That way the chip might run cooler and the board will work fine.
is anybody alive
:P
sounds like a plan. ;)
maybe before that try updating the bios to the latest version maybe there are some compatibility problems fixed in the latest?
we r goin to go with the Abit
there has been more success with the Abit, so we get that
ok. :)Quote:

abit's got more OCing options anyway (from what i've heard).
yes thanks
Remember the Abit will also report temps higher then your Asus (which apparantly reports low)
we r switchin the CPU and gettin the XP M 2400
ive seen more systems with that cpu, so is it better to get a 45 watt or a 35 watt
on the abit board how much is the difference in temps? and will speed fans detect cpu temp right?
thanks
Consider getting the Mobile 2600+.Get it from www.excailberpc.com - it has a confirmed stepping.Quote:

The case is beautiful, and is VERY strong.
Alright, we will be returning the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe and the Mobile 2500XP
We will be getting the Abit NF7-S and the 35watt Mobile 2400XP. Hopefully we will have it by wensday and we can get it up to 2.5Ghz
can i have it
i dont think so
If I were you, I would definatly consider putting a shroud in between that sp-97 and the fan! See the overhang from the fan there? a shroud will take that wasted air and shove it all through the fins of your heatsink. Probably lower temps a bit, which allows for a higher OC. :)
we will keep that in mind
Alright!!
Got the NF7-S and the mobile 2400XP working good.
1.35Vcore, 1800Mhz, 35C
Dont the Abit boards supposedly show the temps like 10C higher then they really are?
Everythings working great so far!
No, they don't.Quote:

In fact, the temp you are seeing is the socket temp as the Abit will not access the on-chip diode, so your CPU temp is prolly on the order of 5-10C higher than that.
Congratulations though.
Why dont they access the on die temp then...I always thought abit reported higher temps then real...i guess its actually lower...so i guess like 50C should be our limit when OCing?
Actually, the Abit does access the Winbond 83.....(I forget the actual number) on-board diode, but it reserves access for itself.
That diode is where your thermal warnings and shuttdown temps come from, but it blocks third party apps ( MBM5) from accessing the same reading.
If you run the MBM5 Setup Wizard you'll notice that your CPU temp is set to Winbond 2, which is the thermistor in the socket base.
I hope you checked the thermistor position before you installed the chip.
It is not always sticking up far enough to make good contact with the CPU die and that can give you wonky readings.
I didnt see a thermister...never have lol but I aint taking that damned sp-97 off again..it will be fine...I guess
Is it bad to take the heatsink off and then reapply without putting new thermal paste on?
Also, we noticed the Abit had the square plug used for P4 boards usually...should we attach that?
ya. :rolleyes:Quote:

actually, what is it even for i thought it provided the processor voltage. (after the motherboard scales it down a few volts).
this is bigdawgfoxx...I believe the plug is for added power like you said...but I dont really know why it needs it... its at 1.35Vcore right now haha
At what point does the heatsink usually get hot? Because i feel the bottom of the fins on the heatsink and they are almost cold...not warm at all.
at abaout 45 u start to notice it hot but still not very hot. at about 50 u can feel it still but it will be hot (not so hot though). at like 60 is when touching it hurts.Quote:

Hey, we were gona make like a 10-15 second video of something krunk for yall haha, where is a place I can host it off of so yall can just click it and download it?
I could always just email it to yall but id rather yall just be able to click and download.
^^^need answers for that one up there lol andd
We set the FSB to 200Mhz X 9 which is still 1800Mhz, but it wouldnt boot...had to reset CMOS.
How big is the vid u are planning to make?
uhh like 15 seconds with a digital camcorder...I duno how big it will be tho...like 300X400 would be fine.
I think he meant size as in megabytes....Quote:

Just so he knows for your hosting question
I duno how big thatd be...maybe 2 or 3 megs...I should be able to fit that on mine..maybe.
We set it at 166X 12.5 which is a lil over 2Ghz, and it is working. We cannot set it at 200X11 though..kinda wierd.
Also, speed fan is detecting tempertures as follows:
Temp3: -48
Temp: 46
Temp 2: 39
Temp 1: 25
Im guessing temp 1 is the case...Temp 2 or Temp is the CPU and Temp 3 is just bogus. Im hoping
BIOS reads as 39C, so I think that is the better one...Heatsink still feels very cool.
Update!!!
We got it running at 200X11, at 1.625 at 40C and the heatsink is still cool.
We will report back in a little while when we think we have reached a good overclock....I might make a new thread lol
Edit:
Its at 2.4Ghz with burn in for 10 mins..I know 10 mins but it SLOWLY krept to 45C..The heatpipes are feeling a little hot now though. The sink itself feels very cool...the heatpipes are the only things that are hot though. I will make a new thread with all the final specs and pics.
I put it at 1.85 and 2600Mhz, but it just wouldnt but to windows. It would boot past BIOS and the windows XP screen, but right after logging in it restart...I really dont know why.
We have it at 200X 12.5 @ 1.75Vcore. Folks, that is 2.5Ghz haha New, more organized thread with pics and stuff will be coming once I get to my house and upload everything.
