Wow, 1000 post to be a Senior Member. :P Couldn't you have thought of something else? ;)
So.....
You are telling me that I will never be a "Post Whore"
bummer....
First "not smoking in New York City bars" and now this
When will it end?
Post Whore was put in for fun when FC was around. ;) I would hope they put it back, but oh well, it was a good laugh. :P Klite Board God sounded better. :lol:Quote:

I still think this is crap..... :-" :'(
Now look what this has done, you got the people angry. :P It seems now the only people who are angry are the ones without 1000 posts or very far from it. ;)
What about K-Lite Master? Sounds ok. ;)
What happened to 2 and 4 stars...
Why skip them? :pirate:
Thats not Paul, its VB, and was probably done to cut down on the spamming ;) Anyway, it seems pretty fair, although I only got to enjoy being a Board god for a week :P [/b][/quote]Quote:

What made you do this?
Well, I had been a board god for a couple months, and I still think this is BULLSH#T First off, taking away members stars?, talk about stealing some pride away from faithful members. <_< Secondly, where is the logic in counting posts in almost all areas again, and then taking stars away from members in order to reduce spamming?????? I have to wonder how much some of these people know about human nature. Speaking of logic, in the current format, what is the point of having a 1/3/5 star division. If you're only going to have three seperate ranks why not just 1/2/3 stars? Now back to pride in members; do any of you honestly believe that a person with 75 posts should have the same star recognition as someone with 999!!?? Whether you admit it some people take pride in their stars because they know they have spent time answering questions and weighing in on important board and program issues to earn them, and to say that two people (75 posts and 999 posts) with such opposing time and effort spent on the board deserve the same number of stars is very insulting. I commend your recent efforts to make things run more smoothly on the board, but this the WRONG decision, and I hope you reconsider and take into cosideration respect you should have for loyal members of the board. The same as we do you.
I agree, and i want to add;Quote:

I don't know if this was the best move made by the mods, but keep in mind: they tend to have our best interests in mind when they make these decisions.
People, you shouldn't have to rely on the "star-system" to feel better about yourself. Just because it says K-lite board god (or whatever is the highest ranking) next to your name, doesn’t necessarily make you any better than a newbie (or "newcomer").
You aren't treated any differently if you have more posts than another person. Generally, personality tends to shine through the posts counts...
Like I'm sure most of you have heard a thousand times by now: "Quality over Quantity."
This forum isn't a competition to have the highest post count. We're here all with a similar interest in mind. "A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation."
So, like summerlinda said: Give the complaining a rest.
IMHO, I think all post-counts should be abolished, ceasing all competition whatsoever.
There is ppl here who tend to only post, how should i put it, negative? way on most of the topics too, just looking for an argue. Some ppl posts alot, some less, usefull and perhaps not usefull info.
Now, im not using this against anybody, im here to collect the info ;) and helping ppl the most i can. And most importantly, have a good time reading the posts. Lounge is da place :P
I can only imagine how much work it takes to be a MOD in here, and i have the respect for them. Rulez iz da rulez, like somebody posted somewhere, and its good to have some margins of what we can and what we cant post in here. I have read the rules, and i will follow them. Thats why i joined this board; i agree with the rules. If MODs desides to chance my status/posts one way or another, im cool with that.
They can "take away" the whole counting system and im still gonna be cool with that.
Because, the more and more i spend my time here, i will learn something about the cool personalitys what is behind nick-names etc. I'll also learn who's posts im gonna look for in certain matters, and whos "negatively-constructive" crap im gonna stear away from.
Gonna finish this by saying, regardless of "star-status";
"Yo, pop the head outta that a$$ and take a look around!!" ...i know i did.
This is such a cool board. B)

Everyone keeps saying posts and stars don't matter. Then get upset about it, when VB changes it.
Judge the quality of a post by reading it, not by the number of things people have said. They could all be rubbish. On the other hand some people don´t post often, but when they do it´s really good. So read the post and the advice within it and decide for yourself.
Okay everyone, I've read your replies and a lot of you have valid points. So here's an idea. What are your thoughts? What are your suggestions? Think hard here, and give us your ideas. Maybe we can come up with some good ideas that everyone will be pleased with.
well, i've to post at least a year from now (my calculation  ) before i get 1000 posts and i agree with JmiF you'll have to read posts to judge someone instead of looking at stars.....Quote:

Look at my member status. It has never risen above senior member. It could have risen a long while ago. I decided to ask that it be kept that way, VB was kind enough to allow me to stay as sr member.
I honestly think I have contributed to this board by the number and quality of sigs I have posted. The help I have given to some people. And a few laughs / smiles I have raised. I have also noised a few people up, as have some with me. A bit like real life in fact. I don't like everyone and not everyone likes me. Life would be boring otherwise.
I don't feel as though I have anything to apologise for. I am not a posting machine, I just happen to enjoy it here. It is the first forum I ever joined and it is the only one I am currently a member of (soulseek apart).
I feel I am entitled to have and express my opinion and I fully support your right to do the same.
First off, I think you should bring the five stars back. The 1/3/5 thing is kinda ridiculous. Secondly, I'll say it again - I think they had it right when they stopped counting posts in the worlds and such a little while ago. I think it helped with spamming a bit (should more the longer it is in place) and showed the proper post recognition for people who contribute to the board by answering questions and such. I mean when you look at it honestly, mosts discussions in the worlds could just as easily be lounge topics, although I do feel a few too many posts were being relocated under this system. My posts count growth severley slowed during this phase, but I felt it was completely justified. I would also support raising the star levels a bit: lots of people have suggested a 0-99, 100-249, 250-499, 500-999, 1000-xx split. I would be more likely to support something like this. I think we could take away the flashy names and it may make people less likely to spam to attain them, but I doubt it. I've metioned before that the whole post whore idea started glorifying a very bad habit and the attention it receives is out of control. Besides that, while we focus those comments on Fc and the like, many new members are much worse and receive no warning or reprimand. I think if you go through the members that average more than 10 posts per day and browse through the quality of their posts you will find some interesting trends. I lost my train of though. I'll think a bit and post again.

My suggestion again! or at least Curley's suggestion! It's where you get to customize the "Sr. Member" into your own lil' thing after, say.... at 1000 posts or so. (of course, nothing offensive :) ) <!--QuoteBegin--Shinigami@22 March 2003 - 09:07

I fully support you expressing your opinion, and I thank you for bringing to my attention your willingness to stay a sr. member. I truly hadn't noticed before. I feel that you contribute to the board and that is why I said, honestly, that I wasn't attacking you. I just posed a question. I guess I was trying to shed light on a strong trend among replies to this new idea that members who had low post counts don't seem to care, as with those who are around a thousand anyway, and that the ones like myself in the middle are most likely to feel disgruntled.
This trend of course has a couple flaws due to replies by those individuals who always kiss the mods asses and refuse to state their true opinions for fear of a bad image I guess.
ewww i revolt here too
now there should be a poll to decide thisQuote:

Surely this should have been done before this crazy idea was implemented,as i said in another post yesterday i blame the admins....they are so out of touch and clueless.Bad management is the problem here...thats why this board is in the state it is.And has this solved any problems??NO...now its got members arguing and pissed off which will only reflect on the overal decline of this place. How many more good members are going to leave??? :huh:Quote:

I'm not going to leave, but how much of this has to take place before people are more likely to leave or participate in the future of the board? I'm not sure, but I don't like the new system, I gave my reasons and my suggestions, and I agree with NEMO that this should have been discussed with the members befor it was implemented, at the VERY LEAST to make people aware. There was no consideration in their course of action. I'm beginning to wonder what happens in their little discussions.
I understand the Admins' desire to downplay the importance of stars and ranks, but I think this new system will do more harm than good. Most users come here to talk and help others, but it's also nice to have something to shoot for. Now it's so hard to move up to Sr. Member, I think you'll see a lot more SPAM. I like tilen76's idea:
- 1 star for the Newcomer
- 2 stars for the Jr. Member
- 3 stars for a Member
- 4 stars for Sr. Member
- 5 stars for Mods and Admins only.
I also have a technical question. I there any way the board software can limit the number of posts each level can make per day, like 5 for Newcomers, 10 for Jr. Members, etc.? Maybe that would make people think twice before spamming.
Bring the old (5-star) system back. Raise the number of posts for each "level" if you want, but there has to be differentiation. 1/3/5 is just silly.
I'm not exactly sure why we had a poll to change "newbie" to "newcomer," while this came clear out of left field.
Tilen76's 4-star system would work, as well, if you want to chop out the Board Gods.
Limiting the number of posts one can make based on their rank, though, is just a bad idea.
:ninja:
And another thing, this will just add to the confusion for n00bs.I wonder how many questions we will get now asking 'what happened to my stars' and its gonna stress everyone out having to reply to the same old questions again.
I still think this sucks :w00t:
Here's my suggestion: No more stars, no more post counts. Just the members as they are! ;)
Of course Mods and Admins should have something to distinguish them.
 Are you guys addicted on stars, or what?
This new ranking system sure is boring. just remove the stars and post count all together! this system is pointless.
Getting rid of the ranks/stars altogether might be a good idea... post counts could be left in the user profiles.
I have two titles:
Granddaddy
Wizard/Witch
it was my friggin idea to have custom names after a certain ammount of posts
read back in the friggin lounge
why is it i am never recognised for the good stuff i do
but am aalways nabbed whenever i do anything remotly bad <_<
Have you read the parable about the boy who cried wolf.Quote:

Eventually people just don't listen.
It's not a horrible idea, not quite. There is a reason every board I've seen in recent memory has a post/ranking system though. It shows respect for the dedicated members of the board, but more importantly, it shows you (to an extent) how seriously you should take the advice of someone who posted in response to your thread. New members have great advice sometimes, but in general someone who has been around longer can tell you a quicker/easier way to solve your problem or find the information you are looking for. It would be kind of frustrating to have to look at everyone's profile to know how experienced they are with answering questions.Quote:

I don't see why we can't customise our own
can we give this a thought guys? i really support this idea and that it will give us, the users of this forum (members) have some options about our user setthings. I don't really care about having loads of stars, but give this option a thought.....
I think the old General and Klite Problem sections should come back.
It seems to me that people dont know where to post for help and end up putting it in the Lounge where others dont get a strike for helping.
Just a thought.
This is a good idea. That is where I posted the most, prior to everything being changed all the time, because I really only use the board for hashes and answering people's questions when I can. I mentioned previously that I think it was best when posts in the worlds didn't count, but that I thought too many threads were moved there. I think many of them deserved to stay in a general problems and questions section and still be counted towards someone's post total, as there is a great deal of time and effort spent on anwering them.
