Somehow I doubt that the trading standards would allow this as a new advertising slogan, however it would hit home with the man in the street. :01:
p.s. pop???? Do you still read the dandy?

Good point :D
I can't even think of a synonym for pop apart from soft fizzy drinks. What do other people call it?

US terms:
Uptight guy: Do you want a carbonated beverage?
Missouri: Do you want a soda? (soda water means "carbonated")
Iowa: Do you want a pop?
Texas: Do you want a Coke?
For example:
Gimme a coke.
What kind?
7up.
ok
This seemed weird to mean that a brand name could represent the whole spectrum of carbonated beverages.
You could also say, "Do you want a cola?"
All of these will get you some soft drink. Oh yeah, that is another term. "Soft" meaning "no alcohol".
Hobbes was brought up asking for soda.

That is pretty weird
Soft can also mean non-carbonated so I still say pop is the best generic term for a non-alcoholic carbonated beverage. I guess Wales has something in common with Iowa. Cool

Re: Instant coffee or filtered coffee?
Mmmmmmm coffee... has to be filtered, preferrably Tim Horton's. Cream is better, milk will do in extreme situations.

No, I would slowly walk away from a relationship with Iowa.
Iowa is primarily an agricultural state. That means they f*ck sheep.
Iowa is the Possil of the US.

 in fact  twice cause I know how much you love this smiley
I believe I shall now call it a 'non-alcoholic carbonated beverage', though I fear I may bit burned at the stake by the first shopkeeper I ask for such an item. :ermm:
On topic, I like coffe sweets etc but don't like coffee as a drink, sorry non alcoholic non carbonated hot beverage

I've been sitting here racking my brain trying to think of a UK based example of using a brand name instead of the product.
Cigarette papers:
FFS, the Spar only had Swan Rizlas.
Twat, Swan Rizlas are shit, they don't stick properly.
I know but they didn't have any Rizla Rizlas

Another example is:
I want to blow my nose, give me a Kleenex.
http://images.saleshound.com/broadre...04_kleenex.jpg
For instance, you might say that a girl stuffs her bra with Kleenex.
I was 20 before I learned that the generic term was "paper tissue".
The only people who use "rolling papers in the US are making joints (or spliffs as you seem to call them).

Re: Instant coffee or filtered coffee?
oh noze! after a long and mysteries journey, the cooperative made it known that they are in fact, sold out! i questioned the shop keep, but he let nothing slip, his years of training had served him well today :ermm: had there been a cream crises during the night? will i have to venture further out into town, the main land
from what I can remember, buses on a Sunday run at three hour intervals, if i could somehow board one of these vessels, the truth would be no more than a 15minute journey away, fraught with suspicious people who also unveil them selves at public transport :ermm: this will indeed be a difficult quest

In talking with an English bloke last night about a totally unrelated matter, I discovered a fine example from UK... as he was talking about needing to Hoover the carpet, instead of saying vacuum.

Clear cellophane tape is generally referred to as Scotch tape, regardless the brand.
