Re: You Must Be A Member 30 Days AND Have 20 Posts To Use The BT Invites Section
I think there should be a clause on the first page saying that you will incur a 60 day penalty for whining about the 30 day penalty. Maybe that would stop the whining. LOL

Yeah well, I'd like a spike to exude from the offender's monitor and straight into their face when they punctuate an unfunny statement with 'LOL'.
Judging by your subsequent survival, it looks as if we're both going to be disappointed.

Infraction - 02-03-2007 08:30 AM - spamming to get 20 posts
Infraction - 01-28-2007 12:35 PM - spamming 20 posts
Infraction - "looking for ScT" - 01-28-2007 12:25 PM - Sig Violation

Indeed, they should just spam-post in the counting thread. It'd be mental if you got an infraction for spamming in there, all things considered.

Not really, I'm just pointing out the flaws in your system. Either close the counting thread or don't complain when someone new uses it to get their 20 posts, this is pretty basic stuff yeah.

Re: You Must Be A Member 1 Month AND Have 10 Posts To Use The BT Invites Section
So anyway, I raised a Report about a thread in the Lounge, and I found myself with 2 replies to my report, from people who were not moderators or admin, but something called "BT Mods".
Since when have "BT Mods" been able to read reported threads, and how come they are allowed to moderate outside of the BT section?

What did they say, as we're all sharing.
I can understand the need for BT Mods but if those same BT Mods are going to spam a thread or threads then surely they cant complain if a member does the same. Surely they should be setting an example for the new people and not needlessly spamming threads.
Whilst we're on the topic of setting an example, why do we have a known leecher as a BT Mod?

Either shut down the thread or set the example you expect others to lead.
Also, lots of people posting numbers at the same time can't be good for the server. We get enough problems with downtime as it is without people actively contributing to it.

Sounds good to me, any way to get leechers off the boards is fine by me... trying to figure out if private trackers are worth it though.

There's a difference between posting in the way the thread intended people to post and just posting complete gibberish to get 20 posts to access the invites section...

The thread is asking (well, the title asked, but that's now changed to something stupid) members to count to 10,000, 1 number per post probably.
Skizo and other members are doing that, whether you find it fun or not.
This paul guy came too the thread posting complete gibberish 'aada' 'ad'sd' 'dfdffd' stuff like that, so that he could get 20 posts then access the invites section.
First of all, the guy is just destroying the purpose of the 20 posts rule (to try and get to know the member somewhat before trading with them), but more importantly why would we even want a member who's purely here to take an invite then leave (which is almost always the case with those kind spammers)?

That's the thing. Counting in increments of one is less of an acheivment than connecting to the internet. Less even than bashing the keyboard indiscriminantly and deliberately hitting enter, because my son can count but he can't do either of those things.
The twenty post rule is all well and good but it's undermined by that thread because it's mindless spamming - which is exactly the same as the paul guy did.
I don't dislike the thread, I do dislike the invite section - so I have no agenda. I'm just pointing out the undeniable fact that the counting thread undermines the 20 post rule.

The entire lounge undermines it in that case.
Hell the entire forum does.
Nothing is stopping members from just going around the forum posting random shit that pops into their head. It takes little more time than posting gibberish posts in a single thread.
The good thing about them posting gibberish is we catch them and ban from the invites section.
Now another thing.
If this forum didn't have an invite trading section another forum would have the top rank in google.
Now consider that 1) We have many members, mods, etc. who are actively trying to stop the scamming/cheating going on with the trades and 2) mods such as reality and chewie are working together with staff members of major bt sites to try and keep this invite trading, scamming, etc. under control, IMO having the top rank in google is actually HELPING the BT community.
Think...if they don't trade here they'll do it somewhere else. Now this is a controlled environment where we are allowing staff of other bt sites to set the rules for trading invites to their sites with us and allowing them, with certain conditions, to monitor the trading as well, to keep people getting into trouble.
How is this a bad thing?

Not the entire forum, just that thread. All of it is mindless spam so more mindless spam (more numbers) blends in and goes un-noticed, unlike if they did it in any other thread. As I said, it undermies the 20 non-spam post criteria.
As to the other:
I don't like the trading of invites because it's not what the tracker owners want people to do - they want their invites given out by their members to people their members know and trust, which doesn't happen here.
I know you're saying that if it didn't go on here then it would go on somewhere else and would probably be less controlled - and I agree - but it doesn't mean I have to like it or agree with it. I also don't like the password trading that goes on for Easynews or other newsgroup providers and if you opened up a section for that which was more controlled than other forums I've seen, I still wouldn't agree with the principle.
What I'm saying is the fact that you've made it so it's a wrong thing in a controlled environment, doesn't stop it from being a wrong thing.
Look, tho'. I don't think I've been all that vociferous about it and it's certainly not going to stop me coming here and chatting to people so it's clearly not that big of a deal to me. Added to that, I just asked Allen to get me a bitmetv invite when we were chatting in the lounge so, yeah, not even I'm perfect :P

I know, but that wasn't just for you it was for the others who are constantly 'vociferous' (You make up that word?) about the invites section as well.

Re: You Must Be A Member 1 Month AND Have 10 Posts To Use The BT Invites Section
The section has restrictions such as the wait time so that members get to know each other. This way they arent trading with complete unknowns on the site. Its mentioned in the section to review posts of those your thinking about giving an invite to or trading with. Its also mentioned to do some research and check their profile at mutual trackers your both members of.
The post count allows members to get know each other better. Though weve learned the higher the count required the more spam the forum gets. This is why it was set at five before. We chose to raise the count to twenty so members would have more to review though its created unwanted spam on the site. The post count was recently lowered to ten as a middle ground.
For those that spam their post count to get invites access theyve accomplished very little. They couldve taken that month and been productive though chose to spam it up in a day when they have to wait a month anyway. Now if members research they will quickly note that member for the spammer they are and not give them invites or make trades with them.
The Staff has to define whats spam and when to remove it. In most sections thats simple. The Lounge can be more difficult. For me if theres isnt a complaint then nobodys upset so think to leave it be. If a member came in and made a bunch of empty threads throwing all other threads back off the front page then it would be appropriate to remove those.
The thread in the Lounge may be for fun or could be viewed as pure spam also. Though would rather have the spam in that thread rather than twenty threads in a row clogging the section. The Lounge is to be moderated as little as possible. That may have its drawbacks at times though its also its appeal...

You know, a compromise could be that when that thread gets to the 10,000 that Adster originally asked for, that the thread gets closed and we don't do it again. The fun will have been had and we can play some new "games".

What? You're more likely to break the board than I am. In fact you do quite a good job of stinking the place up as it is (bad decisions). :dabs:
