With filezilla and some otger you can get up to 10 thread download/upload so that make to trick :)
SSH is not good, it is slow because it is secure...
Try filezilla ftp server in server and but connections max 10, then your filezilla client put also 10 for connections...
Somebody propably can explain better and with better english skills :D

I just bought a dedicated server at webtropia. it can take up to a week before its done so i'll share my experience with it once it has been setup.

I installed Serv-U FTP server on my dedicated server and FTP Voyager on the client side (at home), and the speed raised to 300-500 Kb/s.
