At the moment, I wouldn't spend over $1000 on a laptop. If I was to get another netbook I would mod the shit out of it but my fingers are too big. My flatmates and I attempted to take apart a MSI Wind last year and had to get a flat mates kid to take the bastard apart.Quote:

I download most everything, so the optical drive hasn't been much of an issue for me. I did purchase an external drive, and have used that for a couple installations. By using RD, I have everything on the PC, so if I did need to burn a disk, it wouldn't be on the netbook anyway. A 16GB thumb drive can be had for about $25-30. That would give you 3 DVDs worth of space.
All said, I have loved my netbook. It was cheap, is tough, wonderfully portable, and I've found work-arounds for its lack of brute strength.
A possible reason for "choppy" video is a codec issue. What codec was the video of your videos? I would seriously look at getting CoreAVC if it's x264/h264. Did wonders on the Lenovo netbook.
Now I come to think of it I probably won't have a need for a optical drive considering I have a computer usually on. I have too many HDD's to manage manually and not enough to get a server rack.
It's on them annoying occasions when I go to a friends place and they offer to lend my a disc to rip does it really do my head in. This could probably be avoided if I lug around a external burner, but that defeats the purpose of laptops - portability.
Why the fuck doesn't the Macbook Air not even have a RJ-45 socket without an adapter?
