Brass Eye taught me, and many people around my age in the UK, how to appreciate irony and use it to highlight ignorance.
This was before 4chan and even the internets as a ubiquitous influence.
Hence it's exactly what you're talking about with people using AIDS in the context of immediate transference.
Surprisingly enough, mister scientist, you're not the only person to appreciate the contrasting nuances of HIV and AIDS.
