Call me mister-jump-to-conclusions but i reckon it would have been the latter.
Anyway, what have you got against the falklands remaining british, racist. People died because for some unfathomable reason a female politician decided we needed that place.

I just so larf at the merkin 'wars' of the last 40 years or so where they pick on some shit pot little island or country barely able to line up 3 lee enfield rifles, a sopwith camel, and a breech loading 110 pounder cannon, then zap the shit out of them with shock and awe then eiffel tower the fuck out of each other with good job buddy. It's massive overkill on a pack of goatherders that don't stand a prayer, but I notice that that anytime there is a serious threat, there is just dark rumblings and diplomatic papers. America is a bully, where as questionable as the motives were, there was no certain outcome with the British expedition to retake the Falkland Islands after they were invaded by Argentina.
It was done on a shoestring, stretched the resources of the navy to the limit in terms of supply, and could have gone either way. The Argentinians were betting the British wouldn't do anything about it, much like the Japanese hoped the Americans would be so shocked by the loss of the fleet at Pearl Harbour would shock the American public into suing for peace, once again they guessed very wrong.
The British Navy lost alot of ships, there were alot of casualties on both sides, this was far more of a war than your one sided, politically created wars like Panama.

It is available here as a college major, or for elective credit. Hobbyists simply do not not know enough to count as participants.
