ok, quite an old one now. if you've heard it give others a chance first please:

There are 100 prisoners in a prison. In the center of the prison is a room with only one entrance. The entire room is isolated from the rest of the prison (i.e. no one can see in). The only thing the room contains is a sole light that can be turned on and off. The warden begins placing a random prisoner in the room each night, and lets them turn the light on or off. He explains to the prisoners that if one of them comes to him, and tells him that all 100 of them have been in the room, he will let them go, but if they are wrong, all the prisoners will be killed for their stupidity. The prisoners are allowed to meet one night and discuss their plan, but they can have no contact from then on out. What plan can guarantee them success?

They agree that the first time each prisoner goes in, they make a notch in the room (e.g. on the wall), and only the first time (i.e. no notch on the second or thereafter time if that happens). They can either bring something in to do the notch or break the bulb to get the glass shards.

When the last prisoner goes in, he should know that he is after seeing 99 notches on the wall. He'll know then that with him included, all 100 prisoners have been in the room and can confidently say that all of the prisoners have been in the room.

Well that's my best guess ;)

@billy - :lol: Could do that, but it'd probably leave the illusion of my arse on fire, not to mention if I have a vindaloo I could become a walking flamethrower ;)

however, the easiest way is just to ask for the meeting they are allowed to take place in the room...then they can say they've all been in the room :D

ok, another one. there are a few different answers to this one, so one at a time please...

A guy has to a cross a river filled with man eating animals, by climbing a bridge to get to a princess with whom he wants to stay for the rest of his life. but on the bridge is a guard who will chase him back as soon as he is spotted. the guard sleeps for 5mins and watches for 10mins and the guy can cross the bridge in 7 mins. How can he ever get to the princess at the top of the bridge without being spotted.

when the guys sleeping give him the old "throw into the man eating animals" number....

Heh - Should have thought of that. Then again, I hardly ever look for the simplest answers :)

another one:

You have 3 piles of pennies in 8 rows. They add up to 9 each way, across and down. It's a square with nothing in the middle. You get 4 more pennies. Total of 28 pennies. Arrange the pennies in 8 rows to equal 9 every way that you can add them. You can take pennies away from a pile or add to the piles and the number of pennies in each pile do not have to be the same. For example you can have a pile of 2,and a pile of 3, and so forth. But they have to add up to 9, across, down and vertically if needed. They can be put in any shape. It does not have to be a square. You have to use all 28 pennies.
