Yeah that's what I want next. I want media server but I need it to connect HD.
I wouldn't bother with burning a DVD or, for that matter, even transfer to USB.
I'd play the video ts files straight from the computer.
It must be HD though.

PyTivo on the linux media server in our spare bedroom streaming wirelessly to the Tivo hooked up to a crappy old 27" television (waiting for the wife-to-be to OK a new plasma) and 5.1 surround system.
Or just the DVD player for stuff I didn't download. :P

Thats sweeeet.
I'm gonna take a look at my connections on my DVR. I ran wired ethernet to my 360 downstairs (more reliable) and I don't see why I can't run another line down.
I still have 2 ports left on my router/modem.

If you've already got one wire down there, why run another? Just stick a cheap minihub on the end of the cable you've got running into the 360 now, and feed the 360 and the DVR both off of that.
I'm wiring averse. ;)

Good point. I wanted them separate and dedicated but why?
I'd only being playing either the 360 or DVR.
How much are minihubs?

These days? Dirt cheap. Just make sure it'll do 100Mbit (I'm guessing you don't have gigabit in your house?) and you're all set.
You can totally use both devices that way if you'd like, too. No need to switch the network from one to the other. If you only have the one TV, it'd be hard, though. ;)
