Any help with the touchdown thing. You seem the sort of chap that would know that.

I think (I could be wrong) they call it a touchdown cos when the sport first started the ball had to touch the ground like rugby&#33;&#33; :D

Only what I remember John Madden say, but I may have missunderstood :D

That would certainly make sense. A try is also for historic reasons.

In the past when the player touched the ball down over the line they did not get any points. However they got the chance to try with a kick.
