Maybe it's something science students do, because a friend of mine did exactly the same thing.

Mind you he had reasons:
1) it was his own door and he'd forgotten his key.
2) he was drunk as a skunk
3) he figured that since most of matter is made up of empty space then if he went through fast enough it wouldn't notice he was there! Clearly he didn't go through fast enough.
