Actually, after putting some thought into it, I can't help but agree. It turns a request into something more akin to a command, where the person who spoke the words is so sure his needs will be attended to that he's handing out his gratitude. I've done it on a couple of occasions, but it was usually closer to "Thanks for reading this far into my post". Never gave it that much second thought.
