I would probably still want 192k and over, even if i had 56 modem.
Why compromise with the Quality of Audio so much?
128k files just sounds so bad imo.

Obviously, the higher the better.

In the real world of p2p VBR is a great way of getting the most quality at the lowest bandwidth, but you have to be careful with this:
Most ripping apps have scalable settings for VBR, and it takes some tweaking to get it right. I&#39;ve downloaded some VBR files that sounded like crap, and usually the cause was too low of a VBR ratio.


With CBR, one thing that&#39;s often overlooked:
Many ripping apps have a "fast" or "thorough" option, the most noticable effect being the speed at which the tracks are ripped. I&#39;ve found that the end result is much better with the slower rip. If you rip at the higher speed, you can end up with a 160k file that sounds like 128k.

Whatever the method, always check your rips before uploading.

192 CBR for me too, although anything above that is fine (No HD space problems for me :D ).

192 - 224 VBR for ripping.

Anything up from 192 is good enough to download, but when I have the choice I will always choose the 192 [and up] VBR files.

128 & 160 is only good enough when its rare.

this is what i do 192~224 VBR...slightly bigger than 192, but imo better
