It's probably either the floppy drive is broken or the floppy is broken.
easiest way to test this is to put a different, known to work, floppy into your floppy drive. If it reads then your other floppy is broken. If it makes those sounds then your floppy drive is broken.
Simple enough.
I'm going to instal a second floppy drive in the new Sprocket.
That way I'll have ALL of the drive letters from A to L fully utilized....
