Overall, I think The Pirate Bay is the ultimate tracker. Today, it hit over 25,000,000 total peers and I think that's an amazing accomplishment.
The reason I say TPB is it's an "everything" tracker. I don't use it that much because I have lots of alternatives [member of many private trackers] but all the private trackers generally revolve around a specific thing more than else and I've found several things on TPB that I couldn't find elsewhere - it has movies, music, TV shows, books, games, applications and everything else on earth.
The downsides of The Pirate Bay? Since most people don't have registered accounts (and even then, ratios aren't counted), nothing really tracks or records what you download and upload, therefore you could download 300GB without seeding a single kilobyte and there would be no consequences. Since most other trackers have systems like that and rules pertaining to seeding back what you download, there are more seeders and higher download speeds for everyone.
With that being said, I seed back everything to 1:1 or higher on The Pirate Bay anyway. I feel that if I download things from others, I should seed it back so others can enjoy it too. Otherwise, if everyone stopped the torrent after it was finished, it would eventually die. The torrent I'm downloading now, I've downloaded 1.7GB and uploaded 9.4GB, a ratio of 5.382 and I'm continuing to seed at a rather high speed. If everyone did that, speeds would be much better for everyone.
