Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
Will Sweden guys move to Norbits? What do you think? Norwegian is not a UE member.

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
good luck to TTi one of my best trackers
-
Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
though it is kinda sad, i wish TTI staff a good luck. I wouldnt want them to face jail time just because of my own selfish desires. Thanks for all the things, i appreciate the hard work.
-
Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
only some torrents left at TTi :(
is scenehd (my first private tracker) the only Swedish tracker left?
-
Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
Yeah that is so sad. TTi was one of my favorite trackers. =(

Some might but also remember that norbits invites doesnt grow on trees, and they only hand out invites once or twice a year to good users :pinch:

+1 on those
edit: on the other hand, if it is only one year jail time, it can be bearable, yet noone can actually expect such a sacrifice from tracker owners staff et cetera.

No they don't. By that logic, pretty much all trackers should close as every country have anti-piracy laws.

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
@cinephilia:
SCT does NOT host from Sweden.

Yet not every country takes aggressive measures against staff owners et cetera just like they did to TPB in Sweden. I don't see Turkish government banning Turkish trackers and arresting owners et cetera. So even if every country has anti-piracy laws, not all of them implement it in a way that aims the total destruction of bt communities.

Some anti-piracy laws are stricter than others.
IPRED happens to be one of the more stricter ones and it's also more different than any other anti-piracy law.

Just saw that... that sucks.
So far no news being posted on TL, SCC, and ScT. I doubt they will close down.

Fair enough. But why can't they move servers to other countries and hand over running of the site to sysops based in more lenient countries? Why the need to close the sites? Surely there are alternatives?
-
Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
They should move those servers to some countries that are not members of the fu*king European Eunion like Norway or Iceland. Also Moldova and Belarus seems a good place. Besides that there's always Africa left

What? Where have you been in the last few years? Almost every single country in the western hemisphere has similar anti-piracy laws, most of them even stricter than they are in Sweden.
It's just that the Swedes are not used to this, so they seem to panic a bit now. But still, I do believe that things will even out in the end, after the initial shock, especially after that first TPB verdict, is gone.

TL is hosted in USA, ScT is germany, SCC is in Canada.
Im more worried about HDBits (sweden)

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
Wow, the EU sucks balls. A new Soviet Union is more like it.
Also, I'm very sad to see mp3nerds and softmp3 go. They were both very good, even if softmp3 stopped allowing others from around the world to access the site.

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
IPRED has nothing to do with this. IPRED is mainly about making it easier for the industry to get the name behind an IP address who's filesharing copyrighted material.
There wasn't any new law made to be able to convict TPB. This has to do with the fact that TPB got convicted with the laws Sweden has and that they probably won't win in when they appeal. APB (Swedish Anti-Piracy Bureau), or well really the state, would also probably win against any other tracker like SweDVDR.
Saying someone is a pussy just because they don't want to get convicted is idiotic. People behind these trackers have lives too. Some might even have a family.
Have other countries really done so much against bittorrent sites? Only I can think of is EliteTorrents and Oink. Other sites have only been forced to shutdown or move. Nothing has been done against their admins and staff.
You can just move something outside Sweden and think you're ok. You'd have to have someone else running the site for you. Staff and admins could probably not be Swedes either.
-
Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
It's the lobby groups that have managed to heavily influence all filesharing / "piracy" related decisions in the last few years, not just in the EU.
But it's not like it can't be reversed, if there is a political will, and enough people willing to support it. These "anti-piracy" laws are just one aspect of the out-of-control surveillance and tracking delusion, the 1984-like erosion of civil liberties. Something needs to be done about this, and the more people are affected by it, the more likely it is that it will.

edonkey / emule indexing sites, e.g. ShareReactor? What's the difference?

You have no reasons to be worried, HDBits is NOT hosted in Sweden.

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
Lobby groups reached their short -term goals: they created fear, confusion, and perplexity. Nobody wants to take the risk, not giving away even the slightest chance to get busted and pinched. Which is fair enough. Still, the battle might have been won, but the war is far from over! Go Pirates!

Re: Swedish trackers shuts down
I belive these trackers will be up and running again someday. We just have to wait until TPB case is finished, and if they win that case everything will be normal again.

It's hard to go back to anything resembling "normal" after this epic shitstorm of site closings and fearmongering. They might return, but they'll never be the same.

I don't share Your optimism. Bittorent will be done within 2 years (give 1-2 years up and down). I reckon technology will evolve. New, more secure solutions will prevail. We're gonna smash the bastards, eventually.

I dont share that optimism either, with this going, more and more sites will be closed. Yet filesharing will continue, at worst, we would be using mirc as a download solution. But it will continue, there is just no way, they can actually completely stop piracy. They can only stop it being so widespread.
