Oh ok. My ex-gf was half black/half east indian (beautiful) and when I told my coworker from Trinidad (who had my Xbox modded :01: ) he said that was called dougla (sp?). He said it could be considered derogatory but I asked her about it, she thought nothing of it.:ermm:

I guess any race labeling can be considered derogatory if it's not the accepted race name.

Desi is a new one for me. Is it American or East Indian?

From my understanding the term "des" or "desh" means "country", thus "desi" means "from the country" (presumming country of origin) in many of the indian languages.

It would be like if i met someone from wales in england who asked me are you "from the country" (meaning wales) in the native tongue.

I know this from a former collegue who is from the bengal region of india. Ok i admit i learnt this from a guy from the local indian restaurant, although the former collegue did say something similar.
