The Dr.Suess thing is a soon-to-no-longer-be-an-anomaly - we've become numbed to the need for freedom of speech, and haven't sussed the practical effects of corporate speech.
Freedom of speech is easy to understand; words stand or fall of their own weight, but corporate speech curries favor with politics by herding the sheep of dependent businesses along with them out of latent financial interests.
Amazon is the best case extant - Ebay and others demonstrate the penetration achieved; schools, etc, follow immediately or later, but by their own "felt" choice.
No harm, no foul, eh?
The giveaway is that they're no longer published.
At some point, a public official will have to answer for the 'literary' version of having worn black-face in a school play way back when.
