A lot of the hallmarks of RPGs definitely got their start with Zelda. The first one. The one for NES. No, it's not as flashy as GTA3 (which, really, isn't that revolutionary), but games that are forerunners are always built upon.

one no-one's thought of... wave race 64. just cause it must have been a bitch to make that engine, then run it on an n64 :ermm:
i was watching G$ tech tv and it said 'alone in the dark' was one of hte first 3d games. also some monkey island game was really good too.
