First one that I recall seeing was Fletch sitting in my parents car at a drive-in .
If you are a young kid there is nothing as great as going to a drive-in - staying up way later than you usually get to ( and consequently falling asleep sometime before the movies - twin bill at least - are over) , playing on the swings before the show starts ,sitting on the hood and being able to both look at the screen and ponder the stars in the same breathe and everything done in the fresh air surrounded by the smells and sounds of a warm summer night.
I feel sorry for anyone that never got/gets a chance to experience it. Beats the crap out of Dolby true sound and 3-D video .True story.

It does sound great. I never had the chance to experience it. Don't think there are a lot of drive in cinemas around here, even nowadays. There should be some, though.

I used to have one less than a mile from my house but they tore it down ages ago. You really need a big place place away from houses and there aren't too many around anymore.
Drive-ins used to be everyplace in the rural US and Canada but only about 10% now remain( 4000+ to around 450 )
Fortunately here are a couple with-in easy driving distance from my house.I took my then 8 year old niece ( who regular goes to I-Max movies) to see Monster House at an old ( I thought) run-down place a couple years ago and she thought that it was the greatest thing ever.
Two things that for kids are a sure win , waterparks and drive-ins.:yup:
