I may be wrong but when they were going to open in late 2009 they never actually got around to doing that, because of all the "I trade/sell HDBits invites when they open" threads.

Last time they were open was around late 2007, if I'm not wrong.

apparently not to them!!
wouldn't open signups for some time be better than invites, as invites will bring more traders..(which is what i think, but hey what do i know :()
