Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
I have no interest in seeing Brokeback Mountain but have been paying attention to the media phenomenon it has become.
I have heard that it is basically about two cow-pokes (...sorry) who discover an irresistable though unintended attraction for each other.
Their relationship ultimately breaks up two families, which events are cinematically depicted with all due attention to the accompanying heartbreak and strife.
The ironic part is, if the protagonists were a male and female pursuing a heterosexual affair, it wouldn't be worth a hum-drum Thursday night TV movie.
Make them gay, add a cum-shot and we are awash in "Oscar" chatter.
A simple-enough formula, I guess...

Perhaps.
Young Hannah McGill of the Glasgow Herald gave it a good review and generally I have found that she has sound judgement on the movie front. So there is a fair chance it is a good movie.
The Oscars could of course go for a family movie like The Chronicles of Narnia (which Hannah also highly recommended) - not sure how Holywood is on family movies these days though.

Personally I couldn't care what critics think.
I don't really like "heart-warming love stories" so this movie is definitely not one I'd care about.
On a different note, I did like the Chronicles Of Narnia no more than I liked LOTR. It was snazzy with the special effects but was also a snorefest.

I would agree about critics - most appear to be more interested in demonstrating how witty they are without regard for either movie or viewer. I like Hannah because she does try to sort the wheat from the chaff and help people find stuff worth watching.

Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
Went to see this movie on Saturday night. No cumshot :(
I thought it was a really good film, great scenery, cute guys snogging...what more could a girl ask for?
The film imo was able to show that love is love and the sex of those involved is not relevant. I think the guys were portrayed as pretty much straight/bi but that they had to keep their relationship secret for fear of repercussions in red-neck USA particularly at that time. It was nice that neither guy was effeminate or obviously gay (I dislike mincers).
Funny, but the cinema was packed. 2 different camps so to speak... guys in pairs or groups or hetero (appearing) couples.

Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
Is it recommendable? Most people I've talked to say it is, but might be more of a renter.
Then again, I'd be downloading it once it's available to do so... no cinema around here would play it. :P
:shuriken:

Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
I think that the scenery would be lost on the small screen but the story itself would not be diminished. Highly recommended film though.

Why, exactly?
And what would your comment (if any) be as to it's Oscar-worthiness?

Why, exactly?
I suppose because you'd be able to see the visuals better on a big screen.

Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
Recommended because it is a beautifully understated and superbly acted study of the human condition. It is sensitive to the issues without being syrupy, and is predominantly about love not gratuitous homosexual titlation for the masses.
Better J2k4?

Since when has male homosexuality titilated the masses.

muchpl3 went to the unrated director's special edition cut of the movie at Joe's Feel Good Cinema.
You get to it by going through the special door in the back of Joe's Feel Good Video Store....so I've heard.:ermm:
-
Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
Ya, I've heard that about muchspl.
He gets through a lot of 'special back doors'.

I think there was probably a jizz shot in the movie when sara..excuse me, sArA saw it but she just wasn't paying up-close special attention like muchpl3 was.:ermm:

You know, I'm thinking they could both be right, Sara and much.
Sara didn't see a jizz shot in the movie she saw in the cinema - because there wasn't one. While muchspl really did see jizz trickling down Gyllenhaal's bare arse on his monitor, because it was the real deal :dabs:

Yes. In which case :-

Re: I just saw "Brokeback Mountain". Was the cumshot really necessary?
manker....oh you can be sooooo tiresome  bored again huh? Go and do some number crunching or suduko or somat....rod rod rod.....don't you get weary sometimes?
Obviously, I was refering to the lack titilation for the homosexual or (curious) masses (such as yourself). I think there are sufficient numbers of people with such proclivities to be considered en masse so to speak. Besides, as it has been marketed as 'explicit' (yeah right) then considering its success in attracting large audiences, one can (rightly or wrongly yeah yeah manker) assume that one of the reasons for high attendance was a possiblility of a bit o gay pron thinly disguised as a mass audience mainstream film. This turns out to be completely unfounded thus lacking in titilation for the masses.......phew....rising to manker's rodding is such an exercise in precision writing it makes me wonder if he is one of those wannabe Drill Sergeant types......
As the movie here is rated 15, perhaps this is why there was no cum shot. I will await the directors cut.
