No one wants that. It is a mental disease. The pictures we taken to show her before and after of IP.
Seriously, if i were you i would kill myself. I went through more shit that you can imagine, more than a broken heart. I then got over my anorexia. I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.
You are just a moody twat because you had your heart broken and you have to put everyone down to make yourself feel big.
GET RID OF YOUR COMPLEX
You can't control the way your mind reacts to stimulus. We know how blue looks but some folk see green. I would like to think that I wouldn't feel the need to stop eating and emaciate myself or cut my arms if I was exposed to trauma, but some people do.Quote:

See, I know that Megan suffered from this illness and she has demonstrated in this thread that she is far from stupid - I'm not sure if Blythorama has or not but, again, he or she has demonstrated a depth of understanding about this subject that has completely dwarfed your own intellect.
Blanket statements suck, they make you look silly, ya know.
Busyman you piss me off more than you'll ever know.
Telling people that already have low self esteem that they are stupid are the kind of triggers that push them over the edge.
Yeah, you'd just post derogatory, unimformed comments with the protection of anonimity on interweb message boards.Quote:

Anorexia is not an illness. That's like saying homicide is an illness. Suicide is an illness.Quote:

Ok bitch?
ARE YOU A FUCKING MORON?
Anorexia IS a disease, pick up any highschool psychology textbook and it will tell you so.
Although I'm sure you were one of the ones never to get to level of schooling.
For the only retard left on this post...
What is anorexia nervosa?
Anorexia nervosa (anorexia) is an eating disorder with both physical and emotional traits. A person with anorexia severely limits food intake, has a distorted body image, refuses to maintain a normal body weight, and is intensely afraid of gaining weight, despite being very underweight. Long-term or severe anorexia can lead to serious health problems and even death. Anorexia can become a lifelong illness, although it is possible to fully recover with proper treatment.
What causes anorexia?
The cause of anorexia is not known, although certain personality traits (such as perfectionism) and a family history of eating disorders may contribute. Anorexia is more frequently found in athletes or people in professions that require thinness, such as modeling or ballet. 1
What are the symptoms of anorexia?
Common symptoms or characteristics of anorexia include: 2
Intense fear of gaining weight.
Restricting food or types of food, such as food containing any kind of fat.
Weighing less than 85% of expected body weight or failure to make appropriate weight gain for a period of growth.
Stopping or never getting a monthly menstrual period.
Seeing your body as overweight, in spite of being underweight.
Overexercising.
Secrecy around food and denial of a problem with eating.
Some people with anorexia make themselves vomit. However, bulimia nervosa is the eating disorder characterized by binge-purge behavior.
How is anorexia diagnosed?
There are no specific tests to diagnose anorexia. However, a medical history and physical examination, including assessing body mass index (BMI) to determine whether the person is underweight, will be done. A mental health assessment may also be taken to help the doctor decide whether anorexia and associated medical conditions, such as depression, are present.
How is it treated?
Anorexia is a serious illness. Early, specialized treatment may prevent a lifelong battle with anorexia and related health problems caused by malnutrition, such as osteoporosis or heart problems.
All people with anorexia need treatment, which includes taking steps to maintain a healthy weight, learning good eating habits, and receiving professional counseling. There are no proven medications to treat anorexia. However, some people with this illness may need medications to treat other conditions that often occur along with anorexia, such as anxiety or depression. Some people may need hospitalization for specialized treatment.
People with anorexia see weight loss as an accomplishment, so they usually do not seek treatment on their own. However, extreme thinness can cause serious health problems that eventually require urgent medical care. Loved ones often become concerned about the weight loss before the person with anorexia acknowledges there is a problem.
How common is anorexia?
Anorexia affects less than 1% of the general population; of that group, 90% are females. 3, 2 Anorexia usually begins during adolescence but can develop in early childhood. A few cases first occur in adulthood. It occurs in all races, although white females are most often affected. There may be a genetic link, since a person's chances of developing anorexia increase if a sister, brother, or parent has the condition. Young people who participate in sports or are in a profession that requires a certain body type (such as ballet, modeling, or wrestling) are also at increased risk for developing anorexia.
Wrong about what? It's dumb not to eat. It's dumb to kill yourself. It's dumb to make yourself look bad then saying you hate the way you look.Quote:

The same goes for fat people that have the means to exercise and (unless they are anemic or something) just sit on their ass. I don't have a problem with a fat person. I have a problem with a fat person that is dissatisfied with how they look and do nothing. Many of them are depressed too.
Strengthen the mind.
Busyman's an asshole.
taken from yahoo health...
i highlighted the bit that i especially wanted you to read...
Results 1 - 10 of about 16,400,000 for "anorexia"
seems like a hell of a lot of sites dedicated to treating anorexia etc... for a "made up" illness
Quite. It's a term to describe loss of appetite. It can be a symptom of an illness.Quote:

It's a mental disorder. Same as OCD. You can't 'think' your way out of it.Quote:

Uh megan, in that case everything is an illness. There alot of things I knew about anorexia just from how I've seen it before (sans the googling). I've been accused of anorexic athletism (something like that) as a joke and found out the lady was semi-serious. The only thing is, I always ate like a fat boy.Quote:

You are arguing with PROFFESIONALS now. It didn't say THERE WAS a genetic link, it said THERE MAY BE. very different.
1. Anorexia Nervosa is a disease. This I think everyone has established by now except you.
2. The sufferer CANNOT help getting it, they may be predisponed to it, WE DONT KNOW, there havent been enough studies yet.
3. You are obviously a retard. and i bet you voted for bush.
There is growing evidence that some mental illnesses, including depression and EDs are linked to wonky seratonin and other hormone levels, in times of trauma or stress. In some people it goes as follows... You have a hard time, your brain chemistry changes, you spend ages trying to recover. This is why excersise (in the case of depression, not ED, where it can become part of the problem) can help as it raises seratonin levels.
Mental issues, grounded in physical causes, in reponse to stress.
People in the throws of an ED often do not want to help themselves, but this is part of the abberant behaviour CAUSED by the disorder, NOT because they don't deserve help or are attention seeking or something.
Eating, to most people, is a pleasurable activity necessary to feed the body and the soul. To some it can be hell. Because it's an activity necessary to survive, those who have problems with it make us uneasy. To those not suffering EDs, eating is easy, so they don't understand how or why people have problems with it.
Busyman, would you tell a person with parkinsons to stop shaking because they are attention seeking, or a person with tourettes to stop being rude, or an epiliptic to stop fitting? These are all as far as I know, disorders where the brain misfires in some way, but they have outward physical manifestations. Mental illness can be caused by the same thing but the symptoms are all inward. Personally I think need to go and do some more research before you judge people who are suffering and in distress.
Blythe. (Lass)
YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON. I hope you have a child with anorexia one day, not that i would wish it on anyone, but just so you see.
So depression - a mental disorder - is an illness.Quote:

You make anorexia sound like something you catch like a cold. When that becomes true, I'll STFU.
It also seems very prevalent in athletes, ballerinas, models and so forth. So this "disease" is picking on our esteemed movers and shakers. :ermm:

Its prevelant in every sector of society where people are under pressure. Moron.
There are loads of diseases that you can't 'catch like a cold'. Like ... oh, I don't know ... cancer.Quote:

Depression and anorexia are not interchangaeble.
Depression and homicide aren't either.
Just STFU.
If you had suffered from real depression you would understand why its not a simple matter for ED sufferers to just sort it out. You have maybe been under stress or had difficulty coping with a hard time for a while but I doubt you've suffered from depression, the illness.
Diagnosed by a medical professional were you? Oh sorry. You're an expert in everything so you could diagnose yourself couldnt you.
What has interchangibility got to do with anything :blink:Quote:

It would be pretty funny if the subject matter wasn't so serious.
oh so you're basing this on your personal experience. how about we do mine, since yours was a girlfriend that didnt want you.
I was raped at the age of 11, i became extremely depressed and the self harm started then.
i was then moved from the states to england by my parents, i stopped eating because it was the only thing i could control. I didn't want to lose weight, but that's what happens when you dont eat. And it carried on like an addiction.
I would binge and purge because i felt disgusted with myself, because after a while i couldnt control my eating disorders, you think you have the control until it's to late and you realise you didnt have any control all along.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see the reaction of Busyman if he actually were to become anorexic himself?
But most prevalent where? BitchyomamaQuote:

Looks like you're already on the path towards anorexia. Maybe that's why you are so critical of others with the disorder. You see something of yourself in them.Quote:
