If it's used as a determiner then it means one or the other, of two. It's coordinating meaning can be more than two however you need to place "or" between the options. So it would be a lawyer or a teacher or a ... etc.

You used the word to do one thing then chose a different, inappropriate meaning. However you are at least making the effort and it is appreciated.

I do work upstairs but Friday is the day they clean the building (no point paying a cleaner when there are already women working for me), so all through the day they're back and forth the kitchen next to my office - getting mops, vacuum cleaners and dusters, I presume.
