believe me thisiswhoweare... you can get infected with viruses/worms/trojans from any P2P client or network in the world.
nowadays, nothings safe, which is why people have invented the antiviruses!! :)

:P lol, i know. I even mentioned this to you before when you said you were moving back to kazaa. But since emule has more verified sites, ive never gotten any viruses. B)

yes... i thought the same too about eMule till i got that damn virus...
it freaked me out... and ever since i swore not to use eMule ever again... :(
Did the virus DO anything till you ran (double-clicked) on the file you downloaded?
What was the file extension?
I've seen viruses directly use EXE, VBS, DOC, TXT -> actually DOC, MP3 -> actually VBS, ASF/WMV/AVI/MPG -> actually ASF browser redirectors, and COM.
I get viruses and trojans from emails from time to time, but I haven't sworn off email because of it.
Connectivity comes at a price -- one that is increasing as certain industries feel we should NOT have access to generic, unmonitored file-sharing networks!
(Keywords also: generic, unmonitored -- this means there isn't some agency to ensure there's no viruses/trojans on the network.)
At least with extremely bad email viruses, ISPs often start quarentining them for us because it hurts their bandwidth so much.
If you WANT a file-sharing network where you can search through a million users' files, then you have to accept that there may be a virus or 2 mixed in all that...
-
quite surprisingly, i wanted to open eMule for a moment to see if ther was a file i could search for... and as i opened eMule, the virus struck, and i had to reformat the PC...

 thats funny
ok its bad, but its ironically funny. (Dunno why just is).
Try deleting all the files in the temp folder, so its got nothing in the list when you open it. Or delete it and do a clean reinstall.
But you really shouldnt have been infected by it if your AV is updated, it should have deleted it or quarantined it.
Are you sure its deleted of the computer?
-
ummmm thisiswhoweare... this happened some 3-4 weeks ago, and since had my comp reformatted - so there aint nothing to do. eMule isnt on my computer, and probably never will be unless k-lite is no longer available for use.

really bizarre if you just installed a new emule and opened it up and WHAM!
got a virus.
Really is.
Make sure windows is patched up. I got infected by the welchia virus as soon as I reformatted my computer :( needed a patch through windows update to protect myself.
Also use a firewall too and an up to date AV.
-
ok im getting confused here....do you mean this has only happened once?
because from the post i get the impression you got it twice..
-
lol mate - it happened ONCE and i had to reformat my PC.
i have norton internet security 2004, i have all the windows updates and so on and so on...

:) ok from what you typed i thought:
you downloaded something of emule and reformatted computer...
using kazaa...
got emule again to check for a file, and got virus again.
Reformatted again.
:D
guess it was just unlucky.
-
never got INFECTED from k-lite, but the AV caught some worms, but never got infected.
its this single thingy from eMule that crashed my damn PC...

I use K-Lite 99% of the time. Occasionally use eMule and SoulSeek, but you have to stand in the queue for such a loooooong time -_-
-
yeah, if soulseek had a "lite" version like k-lite, it would be heaven for music lovers such as me... :)

µTorrent, Soulseek & FlashFXP.

Re: What P2p Programme Do You Use Most?!
bittorrent and limewire and sometimes emule for rare files. also rapidshare though it is not technically p2p.

Re: What P2p Programme Do You Use Most?!
Soulseek the most. Followed by Utorrent. Emule is the last resort.
