I've known about usenet for a long while, but never used a application because I found the whole usenet thing complicated. Thanks to your guide, I'm setup and downloading.

@RealitY, This is an awesome thread, I wish more people would use the Usenet to share content instead of P2P, I signed up for Newshosting after a friend turned me on to them and never looked back. If people only knew what they were missing in terms of dl speeds and ques etc, I think most people would drop P2P like a bad habbit :)

I have been trying to figure out the NG's for a while now, glad to have found this forum and this thread. Been using torrents for a long time but have heard the NG route is a better way to go.
I have a question about Grabit which I have DL'd and installed.
In OE there appear to be 8766 entries in the group alt.binaries.multimedia.sitcoms however in Grabit there appear to be only 493.
Is there a way to get all 8766 entries to show up in Grabit? I have looked through the preferences but seem to find anywhere to set the number of post it gets.

Nice guide. I now understand what NZB files are and how to make use of them. Sadly, after installing Grabit, I've now discovered my ISP does not have alt.binaries.warez on their list, which is the one the NZB file I opened wanted to go to. Various other binary and warez lists where in there but not that one. Oh well. Back to bittorrent and P2P for me...
wow, i was allways scared of newsgroups... i tryed it a while back and just couldnt figure it out... and just now i had it up and running in less than 10min!
just... do you download all my NZB files off this site? or are there other sites i can visit (when i look at the binarys for my server my brain just hurts :P lol)

hey! first of all, great guide! but im having this problem, on the majority of the servers i only get imcomplete files, except on national servers. is this because my isp has a crappy newsgroup server or is it something else? like some settings that i have to change?

Yesterday I freshly installed GrabIt and used it to download 2 NZBs from the forum. The odd thing is that, instead of downloading the attachments in the news posts, the proggy downloaded something into the Cache folder instead of the files.
Previously I had the program installed and it worked differently.
Everything seems to have been downloaded, so I just need to know how to convert this to the files and how to avoid this. I want the program to download the files, like I had before.

The chance is your files aint on the server anymore, have you checked the date of the nzb and your retention ?Quote:

The zip file contains only the nzb file; it's compressed and therefore is a faster download option for people on slow connections.Quote:
