...and by pulling off the leads one after the other for a brief moment while the engine is running you can spot the one that makes no difference. At least this was the case with old cars - modern EMS would probably go into some sort of sulk if you tried it.
In my case there was a bit of condensation in the plug lead and I cleaned it with my finger. My father was in the car - he nearly croaked laughing. :(
