isn't the higher the number the better? seeing how i think cd quality is 384, and the highest that i see in mp3 form is 320.......why not just get the 320?

I rip at 192k, but now I just compress the WAV file with FLAC to get lossless quality and small size (sort of). You can check that out here.
In my PC if it shows bitrate 1411k it is a .wav file.Quote:

Variable BitRate shows high numbers also, like 400k to 700k or so,
depends on the song.
Highest CBR im aware of is 320k

i cant tell a diff between 128 and 192+ i have found that bass is a little better
i usually notice that the higher the bitrate, the more clearer each of the instruments sound...and sharper, and louder.........does anyone else notice this?
also, how come when you convert music file from a cd to an mp3, you can't get the same ratio quality? it's always a bit less
yeah I notice that...sometimes 320 sounds a little better then 192...i like 192 though...it sounds great and doesnt take up a lot of room like 320.
GS, I'm guessing that you use WMP? It can't display VBR rates correctly.

Ha, that's nothing. I've got 2.2TB of local space alone on my SuSE box.
i didn't even know they had something more than a gigbyte in stores now....
