Ah, we call that a chimney stack.
An alcove is like a recess in the wall.

Chimney alcove
Re: How long do you plan on living?
@Jp.......Yes I know that ffs :frusty: but 99% of the time when someone says "Alcove" they are talking about the resess next to or either side of the chimney. Hence me calling it a chimney alcove.
And what I said still stands.
Unless it fell down.

131 people out of six billion also call it a chimney alcove.

Like I said, where I come from it's different.
The alcove was usually in a corner and was used as a sort of "dislay case".
I've never heard the phrase chimney alcove.
No big deal, we also called the kitchen "the scullery" where I grew up, ken.
Re: How long do you plan on living?
@Both of you...... You're hard work, an alcove can be a cupboard space or any kind of depress in a wall.
But when most people say Alcove they are talking about.......oh ffs I typed it above, I never said I call it a chimney alcove, I said that actually for clarity knowing manker is an office boy and would'nt understand :P

I've never heard the phrase dislay case. Is this some kind of Scottish witchery.
