mobboss the only way he could get into windows is with a boot disk and chances are that wont work.
thats the good thing about windows xp if a problem like that occurs you can do a repair install.

one more note. does your moms com use the same windows version? if so you might make a boot floppy
disk on her com to use on yours.
An idea...if your mom has the same OS then go to add/remove programs. Select startup disk and create a startup disk on your mom's computer. Then insert that disk into your computer. I am sure the same gerneral files are in both computers. Give that a shot before reinstalling and do not reformat unless you care not for the files you have.
On that same thought, you said your bootdisk was not working. Have you got you bios set to boot to hdd first? try setting them to boot to your A/drive then install the boot disk

When you reboot your system just keep pressing F8.
No matter how bad the problem is, it should let you get to safe mode.

or he tried swapping his harddrive over to the other computer...
