This way, you don't look like a spy, and can't be fired for reading confidential information... and you can approach your friend with your concerns without having to admit you were spying...

i know what he's talking about

but if he's smart he'd know if he used company's email there will be records

using web mail would be the way to go

if you fear your boss is spying on you, use hushmail which encrypt your connection all the way

that's what i would be if i were in his pants (errr bad metaphor :lol:)

here, EVERY user must sign an internet and email "acceptable use" policy (which i created). They understand that their emails are subject to review at any given time, and that all emails are owned by the company - not the sender/receiver. i do not need permission from supervisors, it is my responsibility to maintain. granted, i cannot fire someone cause i busted them, but i can report what i've found to their supervisor.

one guy last year actually was fired, for browsing the internet all day. i first told his superior (after months of blatent usage), who asked him to stop. he continued to be dumb about it - so he lost his job.

you haft to be kidding about the network drive thing! if i find porn on a network drive, you're done! there is no personal privacy on a company owned network!

I assume this is at a work place. All e-mail conducted at work should not be assumed as 100% private. Everyone "knows that". Tell your friend that (written in the company's rules somewhere).

Since you are the Network Admin. , you do have access to the computer network, which involves seeing e-mail at times, especially when trouble shooting.

Being that this person is your friend, you should have no problem making mention of it. If it were me. I'd tell him about it, but advise him to do that e-mailing elsewhere, not on company time. I'd leave it at that. If he does it again, that is his own fault if he gets "caught". I am not sure what your job consists of, such as busting people and "telling" on them? I don't know. As always, his wife will find out.
