I throw my anecdotal experience up as evidence to support that. I refuse to pay for ads PERIOD. I will pay, or I will tolerate ads - NEVER BOTH. :)

I stopped using private trackers for a long time, as streaming apps covered everything I needed. Thankfully I kept my accounts active, as I'm torrenting again due to how awful all the streaming services have become.

No source, legal or otherwise, has everything or is guaranteed to offer what it does have forever. Keep your options open (at least to some extent) and one day you'll be glad you did.
