@VB, that sucks. was there a power surge or soemthing? usually mobo's just don't die unless something happened. look at my old hp. i've used it for 4.5 years, and no hardware probs at all! kinda surprising

yeah same with my 3 year old dell lol..they might not be the best bang for the buck...buttt they will last usually, due to testing before there shipped out.

I know it's kind of surprising but it happened. I don't know if it was a power surge that caused it but it was the only part that died. If it was a power surge then I would think other parts would have gone also. It had run for a little over a year (I never even tried to claim warranty).

so wat should i do bout my mobo dilemma ppl? the abit is cheaper, and has firewire. the asus is more expensive, and doesn't have firewire. other than that, theres only the hyperpath difference. :unsure: :unsure:

maybe your rite. that would add up to $119 + $106, or $225. there's only a $5 difference. hmmm..... i'm wondering if the firewire support will come in handy. and certainly the fan on the chipset heatsink will be useful. hmmm..... thanks dawg. now, any other suggestions? not that i don't trust ur judgement dawg, just want more ppl's opinions to help me decide

EDIT: well, i'm buying till this thursday. so i still have time. in the meantime, i've decided to stick with the stock hsf. how far will that take me in terms of ocing? i'm thinking not too far. my goal is 3.4ghz. should i get a new hsf?

Abu, it really is your call. However, the hyperpath BIOS hack that enables PAT is an excellent plus. I myself was thinking of getting one of those but I could not justify the purchase to myself.

Personally I think it is kind of a bad idea to buy a new mobo today as the Prescott is going to be released sometime in the next couple of weeks and it would really suck if your new mobo didn't support it...

:) Sorry bigdawg, but that is just a rumor.

FWIK its a 90 nanometer microprocessor by Intel that uses a hell of a lot of wattage and has a 1 MB level two cache. I would write more right now but I am trying to finish this job for my boss.
